I think someone got the numbers wrong. There were 22 issues of the continuing series, plus the “pilot” annual, and the adaptation of “The Cage” for a total of 24.

The first, "Strange New Worlds", was IDW's 2013 annual, and it was a "double-sized issue". (It carried the "New Visions" banner with its reprint edition. Maybe he counts that one as well?)

There was also an unnumbered special, "More of the Serpent than the Dove", which came only with a Humble Bumble offer, and then was included in an omnibus.

All the issues were “double sized”, including the 2013 annual, with the exception of the Humble Bundle exclusive. They were 44 pages when regular issues were 22 pages, and dropped to 40 pages when IDW slimmed their regular issues to 20 pages. (More the Serpent was 20 pages, as I recall.)

Including the Humble Bundle special does make it 25 issues. I forgot about that one!

I got the e-book version of TOS: Prime Directive yesterday. I've been hearing good things about this one for a long time, so it's been on my wishlist for a while. I'm looking forward to finally reading it.

It's really good, I read it years ago on the strength of how well I liked Federation. Very well written, very memorable. I was happy to see it in the latest round of discount ebooks and went for it. It's nice to have it available on my reader.

This week's haul: "Retro Fan" #4, which includes a Robert Greenberger article on the Pocket Books' authors' "Star Trek" set visit to Ticonderoga, NY; "Star Trek Magazine" #71; Dayton Ward's latest "Star Trek: The Next Generation" novel, "Available Light"; and J'ai Lu (France, 1980) edition of the novelisations of "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".

I was thrilled to pick up this well-preserved French edition of TMP. I wanted to investigate that old rumour that Alan Dean Foster was wrongly credited, in a translation error, in that edition as the author. Looks like translator Herbert Draï got it right after all!

I like “translated from the American by” not “from English”. Funny!

I guess it means "the American edition", since the UK and Australasian editions had a bonus photo insert (with captions) and slightly expanded descriptions of Kirk's connection with Vice-Admiral Lori Ciana.

How the #### is everyone getting the Available Light novel so early?

It's an April title, so it would normally be in stores the last week of March. (Although trade paperbacks are sometimes later that MMPBs.) Mine was actually running late because my local Australian bookstore only ordered from the Australian supplier this time, when they usually get a few advance copies of each new title direct from Simon & Schuster USA. (This one did come from US, but was ordered two weeks late.)

Pocket/Gallery books don't have a mandated "day of release" like the "Harry Potter" books.

Have you ordered it through Amazon? If so, that'll be why, they have it set at 18th April.


I imagine those with hardback copies ordered it through other online retailers or a brick and mortar book shop.
