Last movie you saw?

Religious things yes. Government functionaries, no. I'm pretty sure the only reason it was called the "The Dark side of the Moon" was because it was an operation mounted on one side of a big rock that nobody was supposed to see. Whether or not the reference was scientifically accurate was likely the furthest thing from their minds when they were planning it.

Government Functionaries are not always known for their scientific acumen. Some even say really stupid things in that area. I recently heard one on TV who didn't know that when an Iceberg melts it doesn't raise the level of the sea!!! I mean it's something we learn in middle school!!!

Agreed, so why are we having this conversation?

The quote itself was not referring to the actual Moon in any way shape or form. It's just what they called the base. How they came up with the name is irrelevant and probably moronically stupid.

On the dark side of the moon...it used to be that when the orbiter crossed over to the opposite side of the moon from Earth they lost radio communication, hence, the dark side of the moon. Radio darkness.

Ant-Man.

Like most Marvel movies, it's something calculated by a plot-computer that has rolled right off the conveyor belt: competently-made, okay, but soulless. I'm growing a bit tired of this franchise.

Yeah, I'd grown tired of them awhile back. The last one I saw was Black Panther, but my interest had waned long before then. Entertaining, sure, but after a while your brain starts to want something more. And this is the type of movie that seems to currently be dominating the box-office with as many as 2 or 3 of them playing in theatres at same time.

They're nice to look at and sort of fun, but they're all very easy to digest, and I'm a bit tired of it. Black Panther getting nominated for best picture was ridiculous. It's a nice enough movie, but come on.

Fighting with my Family

I'm a Paige fan, I used to be that pale, so, I always said she was my sister, and part of her name is my first name, and I am part English.

Little tear in my eye.

Well, I understand why it was done. It was an extremely important movie culturally. The fact that it was even nomimated for Best Picture is also quite important, particularly in the case that science-fiction or superhero movies almost never get nominated. But it's only secondary to the fact that it was a good movie that had done very well.

I'm the first one to defend culturally important media, but I don't think the movie was good enough to win best picture. However, that's how I feel about it. Others will clearly disagree. Honestly, I would have preferred it if Black Panther had won over the one that did win.

It's the 40th anniversary of Alien, so my wife and I went to see a special screening of it at the local cinema. We both love the movie, but have never seen it on anything better than DVD. We were stunned by the level of thought and detail that went into the visuals, and the efficient storytelling. We have been talking about it for days now.

Best movie of all time imho... good to hear it looked great onscreen.
