oh that's easily remedied. just go see the movie again. they're all there. the Enterprise even bangs into one.

as for Gaila -- I think she's dead

Wait... so Gaila died?!? How did I see this movie 3 times, and never notice the destroyed starships hovering over vulcan. If she's popular enough though... maybe the producers will decide to pretend she was on the Enterprise. I'm pretty sure she wasn't but looking at the results of the mail Uhura vs. Gaila poll... maybe they'd keep her in to attract males to the next movie? I voted for Uhura, I don't dislike Gaila or anything, but I thought she was pretty, confident, and awesome.

If you go to the men's Gaila/Uhura poll thread, you can see the discussion about Gaila's situation. It was never said in the movie what ship she was on, and a number of us in that thread evinced the hope that she was on the Enterprise.

That was tough, because I like them both. I loved Uhura, but when you add likeable in there too..

I'd have to go with Gaila. I think she'd be fun to hang out with. She just seems so bubbly.

But I love both characters, for different reasons.

She's the shuttle pilot, I think. Not sure why I think that.

Edit: maybe it was in the book; I read the book, but I'd have to check.

I don't think she was the shuttle pilot. She sounded to me like a flight attendent. I assumed Pike was the shuttle pilot because it's his voice we hear. Rats, the book doesn't say either way and Pike's announcement isn't even in the book.

I think Gaila is toast

I've looked and she's not in the auditorium at the end. OTOH, she's not dead dead unless we see the body. And we didn't.

Nobody said it isn't Starfleet material, obviously it is - but who says that Starfleet material has to be especially smart?

Come on... you're not going to tell me that anyone who's been to the university - or even graduated - is all that intelligent? There are many examples that suggest otherwise.

Kirk would indeed seem like a jackass just based on the bar scene, and it is only because we know that he's allegedly smart on "genius level" and what not that we don't consider him dumb... which doesn't mean that he's not a jerk.

Maybe Cupcake has got sides to him we don't know, too, but before we get to see them, I'm going to base my judgments on what I see on screen, and that points to Cupcake being a jerkass.
