La brea

Well I kind of got that from the first season and the hints they dropped with the military already knowing what was going on right from the get go.

Sure, there were hints. But at first, I thought it was the present day military that was responsible for the experiment. We did not know that it was actually people from the future who created the experiment that caused the sinkholes. Also, now we know that Gavin's parents were actually from the future and were part of the team that created the experiment and caused the sinkholes.

Hey future people causing problems that's cute.

This episode was interesting.

Gavin gets to meet "the leader" of Project Lazarus and it turns out the leader is his father. I think we probably saw that coming. I think Gavin's dad was probably telling partial truths to Gavin about the project. The part about using the plants and animals from 10,000 BC to try to save 2076 is probably true. But Gavin's dad seems like an "ends justifies the means" kind of person. He probably knows the portal is causing the sink holes and does not care about the damage they are causing and the lives they are destroying because he is willing to pay that price in order to "save 2076". It is also possible that Gavin's dad did some other really bad stuff in the name of the project. We know they have a deal with the Exiles that are using forced labor to mine the uranium rock. Are the rocks radioactive and causing cancer to those prisoners? It seems Aldridge, Silas and Gavin's mom do not agree with Gavin's dad's methods and that is why they left the project. It is also possible that "saving 2076" was a lie and Gavin's dad is using the project for something else.

It is interesting that he let's Gavin go to 1988. He says he did it because otherwise Gavin would never come back to him. He does seem motivated to try to get his family back. So while his methods with the project are terrible, he does still care about his family, in his own way.

It will be interesting to see what happens in 1988 now. I bet Gavin will go and rescue his mother and get to meet her. He will then get her side of the story about what happened.

Ratings for this show have stabilized for the season, and easily above the renew line at this point. Season 3 is likely. Hopefully the writers aren't planning to keep this show going forever though - mystery box shows have diminishing returns.

As always, an X-factor is viewership on Peacock. (Season 1 was on Hulu)

The time travel really makes no sense
In the first season the possibility of Gavin as a child not going to 1988 was causing his children to be ill because of never existing... but somehow Gavin's father thinks he can strip-mine and plunder the past, while causing NATURAL DISASTERS through the entire timeline which would alter the future and possibly take him or any member of his team out of existence?
