Kylo Ren RUINED! [SPOILERS] HELP ME PLEASE

I read nothing, I watched nothing other than the trailer, I knew nothing, I absorbed nothing, the only actor names I registered prior to going into VII today was the original folks.

Kylo Ren looked so badass. There are a gazillion Kylo Ren masks, toys, lightsabers, figures, mugs, tea sets.. he's everywhere. I was PRIMED.

And then Kylo Ren he.. took off his mask and I literally gasped in the cinema and kind of choked on my lollies and right then and there his entire badassery dissolved and he was whiny self absorbed Adam from Girls. And now I can't figure him out because it seemed that once he had no mask and was talking honestly he really WAS a whiny self absorbed fail-bot of Emperor-VII with daddy issues.

Is he supposed to be like this? Or are we still supposed to see him as badass?

He does look like Anakin in ROTS. Around the eyes. It's like he's in dressups trying to be grandpa. Yeah I know that was alluded to by Rey.

There is one big lesson from Kylo Ren, NEVER breed with a super force person because the chance of your kid turning out to be a complete shit is much higher than normal.

Someone said it pretty well that he is basically Anakin with rage issues. Sure, Anakin did kill bunch of sand people, but he had a good reason. Ben seems to be ready to trash the whole room if he doesnt get what he wants. No wonder Leia and Han send him live with his uncle.

We'll see what Snoke does to him when he goes in to "finish his training". Maybe he will be more badass in the next movie. Atleast he will have big scar across the face, if I remember correctly.

Did you have no idea what Adam Driver looked like? Driver's take on Kylo was one of the best parts of the movie for me. The fact he WASN'T just another bad guy of the week......

Yes of course I knew what he looked like, that was my point. I didn't register it was going to be HIM until he took off his mask and my association with the actor meshed itself with the whiny-ness of the character and it was a perfect storm of me not buying Kylo Ren merch

This!

I LOVED his performance and this was knowing before what he looked like and thinking he was an ugly bugger with a long horse face.

Granted I've never seen an episode of "Two Broke Girls" so I have NO IDEA what he acts like on that or how he's portrayed.

I just LOVED the conflict within him and the struggle you can see Ben going through. It added SO MUCH more to his character and made me actually CARE about him more because I could see the pain he was enduring!

GREAT STUFF!!!!!!!!!

He is certainly a more rounded character than Vader was in the first movie, where hus entire backstory was: evil dude with soecial powers who was once a student of old sage gone bad.

Seems like i saw a different movie.

All i saw was a whiny emo bitch who couldn't cut it when he met real resistance and crumpled into pieces.

Vader would have been embarassed to belong to the same family as him.

Which is kinda the point and a strong element of his character. He knows this and has been bluffing his way around the universe when the reality is he's a bit crap.

And how does that make him a good or even engaging character?

For me it doesn't.. there is no menace about him unless he can mistreat underlings or people chained up to a torture chair.

As i said in my review posting here he starts off great.. stopping Poe's shot mid air and letting it hover there while he does something else. That seemed badass and spoke of great power and a good way to show what he can do.

It all went out the window when he took off the mask and ruined everything with his "I'm so torn between good and evil, woe me!" shtick.

This is why I've spoiled myself thoroughly about the movie. No chance of being taken by surprise by any poor decisions!

Kylo Ren is supposed to be the same level of a padawan, hence Rey being able to resist him. He just pretends he's badass to the people around him (with all is Vader memorabilia)

I know but it's boring. Whiny try hard is now going to have an arc to actual badassery? Since he killed his daddy? Ugh.

If you can't see how that would make him a 'good' or 'interesting' character then you never will.

What I will say is that I believe it added depth to what could easily have been a boring 2 dimensional "I'm evil and that's that" traditional villain.

Conflict is drama.

And HOW did he get like this? At least with Anakin we saw the path to whiny evil and then actual evil but with Kylo we just get presented with this emo little shit.

This is my theory. He had some big social problems from early on, he was super smart but his emotional intelligence sucked. So he was dorky and awkward and ugly and what made it worse was he was raised by Very Cool People. Who were beautiful and handsome and motivated and loved by all those around them unlike.. him.

So he flipped out and decided to try and be like his dead grandpa whose approval he didn't really need to earn because, dead.

He couldn't be cool and awesome so he was going to be a badass. Unfortunately for him he sucks at that too when up against a single untrained teenager.

You know who he reminds me of? Elliot Rodger, the Santa Barbara shooter.

Eventually. Like, 30 odd years after we first see him.

Okay.
