We do know they should be able use Spock though. I mean the big add was about the show being
10 years before Kirk,Spock and the Enterprise." I do wonder about Sybok. Who has the rights to that character, I wonder. Who knows maybe she was one of the reasons he embraced emotion which got him kicked out. Which does bring up the issue of Sarek not being the greatest of parents and I hope the remember that for the show.

I think we already know that Sarek wasn't the greatest of parents, at least as far as his prejudice against Starfleet and Spock's career choice was concerned.

I think that's been implied kind of like how we all know Worf was a lousy dad as well but I don't think anyone has ever really called them out on it within the show. PLus new viewers might not know anything about it. Not only do you need to deal with the issue that has been established but also dramatize it in away that new viewers can be introduced to it.
