"Krypton" coming to SyFy from David Goyer

No, that was Smallville. This is generations earlier on a different planet. There couldn't be any familiar Superman villains except maybe versions of Zod or Brainiac. Like I said, this feels more like Caprica.

I would include Mongul and Warworld as part of the Superman rogue's gallery. But I would hope they farm DC's interstellar characters and worlds for more fodder. DC's first mutant, Captain Comet took to he stars in the late 50s. He could come across Krypton. The Dominators are out there, as are the Khund. Or DC's Vega system aliens could come by. They can explore why no other races came to aid Krypton in its time of need. Just because the Kryptonian on the street didn't believe Jor-El, doesn't mean other races didn't see what was happenng to Krypton.

I wonder if they'll use Jax-Ur as the main antagonist (assuming this show will have a true antagonist). Technically Jax-Ur flourished in the time when Jor-El was an adult, but they could fudge that in this show, since I doubt the current movies are going to do anything with him.

It would be neat if this show were in continuity with the DCEU, but I'm not expecting that to happen.

I'd heard that that was exactly the intention, at least with the original Goyer proposal from 2014. I'm not sure if it still holds. Me, I'd rather have it be in continuity with Supergirl.

Great. Just what we need. ANOTHER Superman origin story.

How many reboots can DC make in a decade?

I grew up with the Christopher Reeve films, which are some of my favorite movies ever. I love the Reeve films. I also got into the Adventures of Superman series, Lois and Clark and Smallville. I've always been a hardcore Superman fan.

But Superman Returns dropped the ball, and I thought Man of Steel sucked.

Clearly, nobody knows what the hell to do with Superman anymore except to make him suck.

Another origin story.

Ugh.

I'm so over it.

I never thought I'd say this but...Make Mine Marvel.
Don't forget the Superboy series from 1988-1992...I thought Sherman Howard was a damn good Lex Luthor (he was the second actor portraying Lex in the series). And I thought the second Superboy (Gerard Christopher) could be really edgy, especially in interactions with Howard. I used to watch this on UPN, and then I'd watch Dracula: The Series. :) Can't remember, was that Saturdays or Sundays?

Do you think this would be a spacefaring civilization? That's generally a trope if they're shown to be "futuristic". Unfortunately they'd need to reconcile that with the entire race dying when the planet explodes. There are ways to do that; e.g. a bioweapon or a mysterious plague killing off all their colonies and a good number of people on-planet. But it would need to be addressed somehow.

Of course, they could just be (explicitly or implicitly) not shown as spacefaring.

Or since this is a new telling, they can be spacefaring and there might be a real colony or two of Kryptonians out there, population in the millions or more. Has that ever been done in the comics? Seems like a natural.

One matter they can revisit is just how and when the Kryptonians became aware of earth. There could be stories there, including maybe some pre-Superman Kryptonian supermen. I think there will be powers at some point. Maybe the Kryptonian science council has a closely guarded secret, or gains one: worlds where they become supermen (maybe there's more than earth, too).

The Green Lantern Corps can be brought in...

They can do more with the Phantom Zone...maybe they're not the only race to think of using it as a supermax prison...and some non-Kryptonian nasties escape...

Marvel/DC crossover: Krypton vs Zenn-la (just kidding).

It would be interesting if the show included Rao in a manner similar to how he is portrayed in the past in the recent JLA series. Depending on how far back the series is set, there may be manhunters rather than GL's in the universe.

I hope it's more than guys running around in suits without lapels. I'm not sure what they'll do but I'd like more than a near-Earth type show.

I wasn't sure they were still making this. It does indeed look like it's in the DCEU/Man of Steel version of Krypton, albeit scaled to a TV budget. It'll be weird to have a DC television series that's actually (at least nominally) in continuity with the movie series.

Superman's grandfather? Depending on what continuity they draw on, that could be either Jor-El I (pre-Crisis) or Seyg-El (post-Crisis). What they're doing sounds kind of like Byrne and Mignola's World of Krypton miniseries, where Seyg-El was introduced.

Though actually it sounds a lot like Caprica -- a drama set on a doomed alien world a generation or two before its destruction. I guess we'll have to get used to the idea of Kryptonian architecture looking uncannily like Vancouver...

This reminds me of a suggestion that Russell Crowe had after "Man of Steel" was released back in 2013 . . . a prequel about Krypton.

Decent trailer. I might give it a shot. The involvement of Georgina Campbell and Ian McElhinney are definite pluses.

While this trailer looks amazing, I think it was leaked and not authorized for public release. Just note the DC logo they used.
