Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

This was actually the first episode of the new KR I've seen (I only watched it for KARR); is it always this disjointed and implausible?

I admit I quite enjoyed the final battle (hey, giant transforming robots are always cool), but it was too short - and they completely wasted KARR as a character by not introducing him until the last ten minutes or so. If they'd said something like "We can bring his personality online right away, but it'll take 24 hours to integrate his functions" they could at least have had him snarling "I MUST MERGE WITH MICHAEL KNIGHT!" from behind the curtain throughout the episode.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

What I don't get is that they knew they had no budget. They knew it would cost a fortune to make KARR into a fucking transformer. Yet they went ahead and did it anyway.

Not only was it stupid, but it ate up what little budget they had and left the show stuck with another God-awful episode that's beyond redemption.

It's a good thing they understood why KARR was so popular from the original show. Obviously it was because he was a transformer that was only on the screen for five minutes, wailing on incessently about shit no one understood (the fuck does he need a "driver" for?). Even the worst villians in the worst action movies have better monologues than that.

Jesus.

No. Usually, it's more so... with hilarious results.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

Karr acted like Venom from the comics (but not the movie), or anygiven jilted ex-girl/boy friend who can't figure out how to move on.

i had a thought.

The original Michael Knight, Sarah stole all his money. What ever knight Industries bullshit he was doing that kept him away from his "family" was now completely bankrupt.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

I have to admit, I'm glad they got KARR's scanner sound right, and I was just thrilled that Peter Cullen once again provided the voice, but that was about all. It could have been way better.

the good thing about Knight Rider is that it sucks
it's a complete guilty pleasure show :D

i couldnt say it better. its simple switch off entertainment to me at least

Saying that i did rate it Excellent because it gave me a feel good factor, and the fact we finally found out why Mikes memory was wiped.

This should have been 2 episodes, everything was too fast.

Threads tied up:
- Mike getting it on with Sarah finally
- Mike finding out about his past rather quickly
- Secret agendas of the Knight program
- Torrez's fate
- Fate of Knight Industies and FLAG (all going to Sarah)
- The deal with Karr and its fate.
- Final closure with Dr. Graiman.

So after only a half a season it all just gets wrapped up leaving a fresh slate to go foward with. So Sarah owns it all now, hmm. I dunno, it just seems we are missing something with this core group of four 20 something's characters. They really need to introduce an older wiser character to offset those 4 a bit IMO. I just have a hard time comparing Sarah who is running the company to Devon or even Wilton Knight .

Maybe Holo Graiman will stick around?

;)

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

Y'know, for the longest time I thought this new Knight Rider was kind of silly and lame, and for a while I begrudged the fact that My Own Worst Enemy got cancelled and Knight Rider didn't, but - God help me - this show is actually starting to grow on me just a tad!

I really kind of liked the recent two-parter in which Rick Hoffman played the villain. He's become one of my favorite actors since turning in that all-too-memorable performance as the American Businessman in Eli Roth's Hostel (2005)! Hoffman's definitely great at playing arrogant sleazeballs, although I'm sure he wouldn't want to end up typecast purely on that basis! ;)

As far as this episode is concerned, however, I could only rate it Average. I mean, the battle with KARR was over way too quickly, as far as I was concerned. But the writers and producers did a pretty efficient - if perfunctory - job of tying up the loose ends of previous episodes, and I'm looking forward to seeing how Sarah will be running things!

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

I agree that this seemed like a two-parter crammed into one episode. Ideally, the plot to rescue KITT would require help from... the original Michael Knight.

Maybe Holo Graiman will stick around?

;)

Holo Graiman can't stick around, because if he's on for too long he'll develop and evolve and eventually demand holographic rights! :p

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

Knight Rider Online had a talk with the VFX guys:

"The folks at MasterKey mentioned that the epic battle between KARR and KITT was shortened because of the budget cuts that NBC bestowed upon the Knight Rider production.

They've put it up on YouTube for everyone to see. Here now is the full length of what it was originally conceived to be."

Video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rxuk-GD18Rc&feature=channel_page

Wow, I have to say the fully fleshed out battle would have improved on the episode. KARR's death is still pretty weak and abrupt though.

KARR is never really gone. Hopefully if there is a second season, the rebuilt KARR will not have a robot mode and if it is the same A.I., the damage from the battle with KITT 3K will have unlocked his original memories.

Interesting. I was more thinking Harry Seldon from Asimov's Foundation series.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

Casual viewer here, who has watched but hasn't followed any talk about the show, so please pardon the ignorance, but a few questions:

1. What was the reason for this reboot? Network suits? Ratings? Focus groups? It seems like someone said, "The show should be young and sexy. Get rid of all the geezers. And kids don't like the Government, so make it a rogue group of kids who are the heroes."

2. Was this quick-reveal of the secret (Mike drove KARR, got his mind wiped) planned to come out over time, and they just dumped it all out at once as part of the reboot? Are they dropping the mystery plot about Mike's past?

3. Mike picked the name Knight at the end the first episode after the pilot, didn't he? Then why was KARR screaming that he must merge with Michael Knight, not Michael Traceur? Or is it a case of "this has all happened before" and Mike picked Knight twice in his life, but only remembers the last time?

4. KITT said he felt like he wasn't complete at the end. Is he? What did I miss?

Thanks! :)

Well, they installed KITT's chip with all his personality and memories in KARR.
So probably that's where his knowledge that he is now called Michael Knight comes from.

4. KITT said he felt like he wasn't complete at the end. Is he? What did I miss?

Thanks! :)

He is not complete. He is missing some memories here and there.
I suppose that's because he had limited time to upload everything on that web page before they removed his chip and chose to go with the most important personality files first.

KITT's AI was used in an attempt to repair KARR and as such he had all knowledge of Michael Knight.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

That makes sense about KARR knowing Mike's new name. Any idea what memories KITT is missing? Or why they made that point?

Cheesy plot device to create a bond between Mike and KITT since Mike has memory gaps as well.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

^ I wonder what all KITT forgot (please let it be random car generation ability).

Though I had thought when it first aired that he forgot Dr. Graiman.
