Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

It still irks me that the Three Thousand is all voice controlled and there are no buttons. Which is quicker, pushing a button to deploy the grappling hook or shouting the command? The same holds true for turbo boost, ski mode, and every other feature.

Depends on how far the button is, how long you have to look for it, and how easy it is to push the wrong button once you've identified it.

Further there's a safety issue: if you have to look down to identify one button amongst a whole lot of them, your eyes are not out the window; where you're in a big battle or whatever it is that needed the turbo boost. Not a very good idea.
Michael Knight never had a problem with buttons in TOS ;)

And Michael Knight doesn't seem to have a problem in the new one either.
He always wins and gets the job done without buttons ;)

Mildly entertaining. And then I heard what I originally thought was my cellphone. No it really was AC/DC's Runaway Train...

More realistically would be the following:
Michael Knight: "KITT, deplo ----" *BOOM* {car is hit with a missile}
KITT: "I have lost damage control and my shell strength is at 45%."
Michael Knight: :klingon: "Damned voice control."

This is Knight Rider..."realistically" is not one of my first priorities.

Besides, realistically it's more likely you are screwed either with buttons or voice control.
Having the advanced AI analyze the situation and make those decisions in nanoseconds might be better than both.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

I liked it. Not a great episode, but it had some nice tie-ins to TOS. They were pretty vague about KARR's origins. They mentioned he (it) was KITTs predecessor but it's unknown whether they meant KI2T or KI3T.

I'm thinking that KARR-2009 is KARR-1982's clone, for lack of a better term.

The pilot indicated that Charles Graiman was responsible for KI2T. It's possible that Graiman was only involved in Wilton Knight's KITT project. He probably had some knowledge of the KARR project and and the AI, but was never aware of the KARR (Trans-Am) prototype or it's fate. Wilton Knight may swept the whole thing under the rug, with only Devon and a few others really knowing about the prototype and it's failure.

Fast forward a decade or so. FLAG has been shutdown. Devon has sadly passed away. Michael Knight Sr. has retired and KI2T is <insert fate here>. Graiman is still with Knight Industries and is now running the company, but now KI is now heavily involved with the government creating weapon systems and an AI for the battlefield. Graiman reasons that the KITT AI would not be suitable as a weapon system as KITT's purpose is to preserve human life. The KARR AI has no such drawbacks. So Graiman, using the original KARR AI, creates a new Knight Automated Roving Robot.

Mike Traceur is selected as KARR's driver. The disaster occurs ending in the death of 8 (or was it 6) people. The KARR project is shutdown by Graiman, against the wishes of the US government. Graiman proceeds with KITT.

That's because Michael was channeling the power of stock footage button pressing;)

Knight Rider Online had a talk with the VFX guys:

"The folks at MasterKey mentioned that the epic battle between KARR and KITT was shortened because of the budget cuts that NBC bestowed upon the Knight Rider production.

They've put it up on YouTube for everyone to see. Here now is the full length of what it was originally conceived to be."

Well, to be honest, even if they had the budget to film what we see in the youtube video, the battle would still not be epic and would still be too short and disappointing.

That would've been much better! Not so much because of the action (which is cool and all), but the banter we get going between KARR and KITT. Darn budget.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

I have the strong feeling that this show's not going to be picked up for a second season. The budget cuts (particularly in this episode), the hackneyed order of airing; the writing's on the wall.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

I've actually enjoyed the first 20 minutes or so of the episode thus far.

For one thing, there's a plot.

Kind of a moot point when the car you are driving is designed to protects its driver's life at any and all cost and would, thus, prevent such a collision.

Doesn't work if the whole point of your action is to crash your car into something in order to destroy it.

I just felt that it was odd they never mentioned that KARR exisited once before, the ending was a letdown but more than made up for with Deanna russo in a bikini

Wow, I have to say the fully fleshed out battle would have improved on the episode. KARR's death is still pretty weak and abrupt though.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

I swear I saw the crate with the Ark of the Covenant in it.

Spooky.

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

This show is absolutely terrible. Terrible.

This is the first episode I have seen and if it's anything to go by I hear this is one of the better episodes.

Seriously, the acting is wooden, the actors are bland, the story waffer thin at best and KARR? What the hell was he? All of a sudden he's a robot? The moment I saw the glimpse of KARR through the curtains I thought 'great, we're gonna get some cool car chases in this episode', but all of a sudden he becomes a transformer and all credibility goes out the window. As soon as I saw it I thought he's got such a wide open exposed chest area, I bet a strong turbo boost right into the centre would kill him - and it did.

The whole debris field thing is very analogous to TOS, and as such probably means KARR could return, but on the basis of this episode I wish they'd all just fade away.

On the plus side, I would love to go into a warehouse and find a car in a crate, and simply drive it away...

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

Knight Rider is terrible.

it will always be terrible.

They can't help themselves.

The lowness of the expectations when watching this show is awesome.

I so sick of being underwhelmed by shows which are supposed to be excellent and are only really really good.

There's a certain amount of comfort in watching knight rider because you know it's going to be shit but sometimes you get surprised because it's only piss poor drivel.

Last I checked the show had been canceled months ago?

Are they firing all these actors to to come in enough under budget to pass a hail mary?

Re: Knight Rider - 1x12 "Knight to King's Pawn" - Discussion and Spoil

It hasn't been canceled but it hasn't been picked up for a second season, which is very unlikely at this point.

They mentioned him a few times in episode 6 "Knight of the Living Dead", KITT even had his schematics in his own database: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/2/2d/Karr%27s_new_form.jpg & http://www.knightindustriesresearch.com/employee-database/images/karr-sm.gif
