Kirk: old too soon?

^^ Don't know if it was intended, but it is a nice solution. I can't take full credit; I was made aware of the dating by a co-worker that home-brews. Never connected to TWOK until a rewatch. Should've seen the look on my wife's face when I burst out with a "It's an ale!"

:guffaw: HA! That must've confused the heck out of her. :techman:

She's used to it

"It's an ale!" sounds like an advertising slogan.
or the makings of a meme
Nice detective work, BK613.
Well, you can now make all the dates and times given in Space Seed and TWOK work together. Doesn't line up with what came after of course...

Totally agree with you on this one, Beaker.

Yeah, they aged him pretty quickly. A man as brave and clever as him should never have been shown as having faults and aging. Kirk is a hero and always should be remembered as such. The ultimate, though, was his death. Berman did not have to do that.

I read somewhere (it may be just a rumour) that Shatner was balking at reprising the Kirk character in a movie when first approached to do TMP or TWOK. And that they sold him on the idea in that Kirk would be doing something different - exploring new concepts such as dealing with aging etc.

Harve Bennett and Nicholas Meyer tell a different story, about how Shatner wasn't keen on Kirk ageing at all, as he seemed to have difficulty separating himself from the character. Eventually, Bennett stoked Shatner's ego by comparing him to Spencer Tracy, and pointing out how he was able to age gracefully on screen.

Not surprised that worked. Shatner never hesitates to point out he was in a film with Tracy.
