Kira got beat up!

Watch Invasive Procedures.. despite attacking first and getting off two punches (neither of which phased her female opponent), the girl smacked Kira around, and she was out like a light before hitting the ground. Love how later she patronizers her: "Are you ok. Don't try that again I don't want to hurt you."

For all we know her species has a thicker skull and denser musculature than most others giving her greater resilience to physical attack, as well as greater strength to be able to take out the Major.

Or then indicative of how the Klingons fight: their honor code obligates them to go, and the leaders make sure the worthless or the inconvenient are obligated to go first, so that the warriors coming after them can reap all the glory from coup de grace swings at panting and gasping enemy top warriors.

I get the "beaten by a female girl of the womanly persuasion" argument - it was a point the writer was making, an attempt at promoting girl power for surprise effect. But it always backfires. Which is why I can't fathom why anybody bothers any more.

...Which is a bit like saying that they killed Kenny.

Perhaps we should argue that the prime bunch, Sisko, Kira, Dax and Bashir, really were exceptional specimen and -women? Bashir is a secret superman, Dax has the know-how, Kira is a veteran, and Sisko just might have hidden depths to him. It's not as if the background extras would fare all that well against Klingons, either.

Mareel seriously just easily beat Kira in one-on-one hand to hand combat?? Who the hell IS this woman?! Kira's through she would beat Mareel in a one on one fight but little did Kira know Mareel was the real ass. After that fight Kira wanted know part of Mareel.

Are you sure you aren't confusing Kira with River Tam?

Nana Visitor was good at looking like she could hold her own in a fight, but she never played it like she was invulnerable, and Visitor was also good at suffering.

*puts on my continuity excuse hat* Maybe she was going through that one Bajorian cleansing ritual where they fast for a month or some other religious ritual that she was weakened from. Then she was in that weakened state when she got into the fight.

Kira got beat up because she went to the Alexis Carrington School of Catfighting and not the Krystal Carrington School of Catfighting like the other lady did.

She was in a shuttle crash landing and tortured in the previous episodes. She must have been still recovering from all that :)

By season 4 all the cast of DS9 could beat up Klingons like they were level one Quake bad guys. That was weird.
Myself, I thought it was also sucky. That sort of thing seriously undermined "The Way of the Warrior" as far as I was concerned. Better to have just had surprise ranks of extra red shirts (sorry, gold shirts!) to go along with those upgraded station defenses and bravely get blasted/stabbed/disintegrated defending the main cast.

Invasive Procedures has some decent ass kicking in general. There's a real visceral moment in this ep when Sisko loses control and goes ballistic when one of the terrorists attacks O'brien, who had already been wounded. Moments like that really make me like Sisko, who is protective of his officers. This episode desparately needed a Ron Jones type musical score.

I believe this is the only time Kira fights another woman ( Mareel ) in the Series and loses. After this Kira only fights and beats up men. So how the hell did she lose to Mareel.
