Kira/Dukat?

"The only way this could happen without turning Kira into a deluded fool and a quasi-collaborator is as Nerys Ghemor described several posts ago: For Dukat to cease to be the man who raped Bajor. To become a completely different and more worthwhile person. To be as horrified by his past actions as a Bajoran would be. To take steps to atone for that past."

Either that, or be so busy with his' gal that his subordinate was atrocious in his place. I believe that a man who was capable of as much :adore: as he showed in "Indiscretion," would not be in character as described to disown Ziyal and show no mercy in other situations. If I weren't so caught up with my TNG OC.... I'd totally be havin' big ideas about him.

Kira definitely should have had a romance with Dukat, like Behr and Alaimo wanted.

Saying it's like Anne Frank falling in love with Hitler is ridiculous.

Dukat helped Bajor, not hurt it. Things were much worse for Bajorans before Dukat came along and drastically improved Bajorans' quality of life.

Wow, this is old ...
We've had a couple of similar threads more recently: this one quickly developed into a 'should Kira have had a romance with Dukat' thread, and there was this one 'should Kira have joined Dukat at the end of Return to Grace.'

The only thing I agree with is that it doesn't make sense to say that it's like Anna Frank falling in love with Hitler, because a) the comparison of Dukat to Hitler is questionable, and I'd say it exaggerates his role during the occupation of Bajor since he wasn't even the head of the Cardassian Union, and b) Kira most definitely is not Anne Frank. Anne Frank was just a victim, a little girl who was hiding with her family and then died in the concentration camp. She was not a fighter, never was in resistance, did not kill people or blew things up, did not survive to see the end of the occupation. So if we're going to make comparisons with Cardassian Union in the role of the Nazi Germany, then a fighter in the French Resistance falling in love with the German general in charge of France would be a more accurate comparison. (And, realistically, if are going to compare Cardassians as Germans during the World War 2, then it makes a lot more sense for the Bajorans in that equation to be the French, the Poles, the Dutch, the Danes, the Serbs, etc. etc. take your pick, rather than the Jews.)

It's still extremely unlikely that Kira would ever have a romance with Dukat, and IMO Nana Visitor was completely right to fight for the integrity of her character. I've already posted my thoughts on the matter in the two threads I linked to above.

Nevertheless, their dynamic was very interesting and I'd love to have seen more of it, I found it disappointing that it practically disappeared in the latter part of season 7.

We don't know that. The only source of that information is Dukat himself, which means it should be taken with a grain of salt.

The debate 'was Dukat such a bad guy/a good guy' is another one that pops up frequently, so to save time, here are my previous thoughts on the matter.

No, I loved seeing Kira and Dukat being parents to Ziyal and all that, but for Kira to get together with a criminal like Dukat? I think we'd be getting into out of character territory there.
