Kelvin Timeline all but confirmed

It seems I was wrong. 25th century is still full of continuity shackles and small universe. Doesn't anyone want anything new anymore? New like TNG was new in the 80s, and Trek has never been again. Fresh ship, fresh cast, new characters, new adventures, only token nods to the past.

There's no reason they can't do that in the 25th century. What makes post-Nemesis more shackled than pre-TOS?

I agree. Star Trek: Titan doesn't sound logical to me at all. I want new characters, new ships, new adventures too. Which is why I'm looking forward to Discovery, which despite some nods to past Trek looks like we are getting just that. I don't care about the timeline or which century the show is set in, just give me new stuff happening in my favorite fictional universe and I'm a happy Trekkie. :techman:

That's what I'm hoping for - fresh stories n vision direction. That's why in my earlier post I'm hoping Frakes doesn't take ST into Rick Berman/GR post TOS box w stale rigid structure etc.

I agree, but I think that's less the case now than it was 10-15 years ago, especially since the series has gone in other directions in that time. I think at this point, the best way to start off a series on the Titan would be with Riker handing over command to the next captain. And I haven't read the novels, so I have no idea how they've handled any of this.
I'm good with that. My real point is I love TNG DS9 and VOY that's what I grew up watching. I want the universe to continue.

I wished RIker moved behind the camera after BOBW. He was very good at directing, but his acting was sub-par and he'd aged/weighted out of the ladies man action hero Kirk throwback that his character was originally intended to be.
He should have gone off to command his own ship and Shelby the anti-borg division or whatever.
Data would have become first officer opening up endless story possibilities. Worf's brief promotion to ops is cut short due to reprimand, and an all new 2nd officer with a fresh perspective would take over ops (Ro?).
This way they not only turn the Riker as captain plot twist on its ear with an even better twist, but actually promote some crew and refresh things going into season 4.
Head canon transmission deactivated.

Exactly this. Perhaps 25th century. Perhaps the Andromeda galaxy. Completely new ship. Completely new aliens. Completely new challenges. Almost everything new since 2001 has been TOS related. TOS prequels. TOS reboots. TOS reimaginings. It's getting stale.

We're nearly to the time the TNG series finale jumped forward too. It will be 25 years soon. I realize they let people stay Captains forever, but it is long overdue time for Riker to be an Admiral or to retire. This is like the Captain Sulu idea, although Titan I think was always more likely to succeed. They both were an idea once, but the ship sailed on these things a long time ago.

Enterprise-F (or other new ship), new captain and crew. 2390s/2400's with cameos from the TNG/DS9/VOY casts as appropriate. They can appear here and there, but the center should be the new cast.

The thing is, we only ever see a tiny part of each era. So yeah we have tons of room in the TOS era to play with and the post TMP era and all kinda of other eras. And I for one, do not want to see another Enterprise for a long while. Let some other ships have some glory.

For you, maybe. For others, especially a more casual audience, it may be that hook that CBS is looking for.

The studio folks understand that TOS is the core of the thing where most people are concerned.

It's true that TOS is the most recognized part of Star Trek but how long before they milk it dry? Look what other franchises are doing. They're trying to expand their cinematic universes. Trek seems to be contracting. Disney may have started their Star Wars with the familiar but they will be quickly extending and broadening their universe. That's my 2c. anyway.

Sorry - but after 21 TV Seasons in the 24th Century and 4 feature fims<--- That era has been done to death

The TOS era had 3 TV Seasons + 26 30 minute animated episodes (TAS) + 5 feature films + 3 alternate reality based films
^^^
Anyway you look at it - the TOS era has had WAY LESS actual sceentime then the Berman /Braga 24th century era. I'm excited they are exploring it more. The TOS era is still the one most ingrained in people's minds too.

I never spoke about the 24th century. I specifically said the 25th century. If you're gonna add the 25th century to the 24th century you might as well add the 22nd century to the 23rd century.

5 feature films? Why 5 feature films? Anyway, it's actually 5 seasons and 9 movies. And Discovery and possibly nuTrek 4 adding to that. So let's not get into the "era that has been done to death" discussion.

The TOS era is still the one most ingrained in people's minds too.

So that's why they're ignoring TOS' look and aesthetic completely in DSC! Because it's still the one most ingrained in people's minds!
