Karl Urban -- blond or brunet?

And dammit! You are stacking up my bookmarks list with all those great clips!

Moves to petition Antony to add that to the smiley list - that's an "innocent whistle" smilie if ever there was one!

(You know, I should probably get round to looking at the official site sometime...:lol:)

Actually, this one's the "whistle" smiley,

but both really need a pixel mechanic to clean them up -- they look kinda fuzzy on this board, for some reason.

I'd say it's definitely worth poking around a bit over there.

There's just something even more insouciant about the halo.
We'll have to ask missmanners about that -- she's been known to use that as a post signoff.

God(dess), I love this board! Thanks for the advice, and I'll be PM'ing you later to pick your brains. I haven't purchased it yet. But all I had to go on was listening to the sound system at Best Buy... and the idea that Bose was a really good audio set. When I read your comment I hit The Google. Boy did a bunch of folks echo your statement.

*Another lemming rescued from a cliff dive*

LOL!:rommie:

It's the least I can do for another fangurl!

Gotta see the glorious men of Trek and hear them and the music the best we can for our bucks. I know most of us won't make these kind of investments every 4-5 years, so feel free to ask away whenever.

Best Buy - unless yours has a section for Magnolia's - is generally a terrible place to buy sound systems/audio equipment, but a great place for video, especially the Panasonic plasmas - YUM!:techman:

Thanks, trampledamage! I don't remember where I found it, but it's my favorite shot of McCoy in the entire movie (yes, even more than Scruffy McCoy). I had cited the scene as a favorite in another thread, but in case anyone here doesn't recognize it, it's when Spock is recording his log entry after Vulcan's destruction, and they show McCoy walking up to a man in slow motion and running that diagnostic thingy next to his face. I think of it as McCoy's "all grown up" moment, which is sort of ironic in that he looks so young there. You can just see that he's taken charge, and even though it lasts only a second or two, I just love it.

Oh - I love this shot too...in fact, I love the whole scene in VO, from Spock in half shadow profile, to Bones walking up to the injured crewman, to Kirk getting his hand bandaged...black screen...to a stressed Spock in the Captains chair...and THAT scene in the turbolift.

I hope they let McCoy do some serious doctoring in XII, a real hero moment or two, and don't just relegate him to being a cranky foil for Spock and Chekov.

I went back and watched a few eps of TOS last week - McCoy was so great in the first two seasons, even with De's twinkling eyes, the TOS Bones had real authority and was just as much a star as the E's chief medico as the other over-achievers were in theirs.

And that's such a good point about the escapism, Jeri. When my husband raised his eyebrows at my 10th viewing of ST this past Friday, I remind him that it's my happy place at the moment. He was laid off in March and is not having any luck finding another job (plus several family members are out of a job or in danger of being so). Luckily, I have a good job that can pay our bills and is as secure as it can be in Michigan, which is of course the current economic armpit of the U.S., but we also can't sell our condo at the moment, my job has been stressfully busy because they're not hiring the additional people we need at the moment--all the same stuff that many others in our state and in the country are suffering through right now.

Sometimes, I just need to escape from all that gloom and doom. And when I go sit in the theater to watch Star Trek, for two hours I don't think of anything but the movie. I'm totally engaged in what's on the screen, and it's like a small mental vacation (with hot guys) that gets me back on track and ready to face whatever else might rear its ugly head. Mr_Whatsit gets his mental rest from working on his computer. I, on the other hand, require a little Dr. McCoy as my prescription. So I can totally vouch for your theory.
This is a wonderful post and actually brought tears to my eyes this morning before work. It's tough times all around. In my small company we had to let someone go on Friday. So reading this brought reality closer to home. Going to see ST (and I saw it for the 27th time on Sunday) is the ultimate stress buster. 2+ hours of air-conditioned comfort in a dark theater with an uplifting story and serious eye candy for me to enjoy. I've been going on the weekends in between errands and ballgames - I even print out a Google theater times in my area for the weekend on Thursday night so I'm prepare just in case I have some time to kill.

I so agree.

I've only seen it 16 times.

But I'm not kidding when I say it's cheaper than therapy (and the men are better looking too).

Coincidentally, all three of us are appear to be in the Midwest, where things are the hardest right now. Bones and his crewmates may not have done a ton of healing in this first movie, but they're certainly doing their job here in the heartland, aren't they? :)

Now I have to try to catch up to you two in viewings, KittyDuran and Rackon. Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone!

TrekWeb.com has posted up a transcript of a German interview with Karl Urban and John Cho

Here is the link

I love Karl's description of his role as McCoy "Thats me, a toucher, a teaser and the poker" - well actually the transcript says "a torcher", but since he's not a pyromaniac I'm guessing they meant toucher!

Here you go...I officially turn over the hair shirt to you. Up until now, I think I was the first-place nut job around here with 20 viewings. But you can get the stares now!

Seriously, I gladly posted how many times I saw the movie to encourage people to go. I cannot honestly say my madness is connected to the economy at all. I just loved this movie; it was a wonderful experience, after being a fan for 43 years. Normally, I don't even go to the cinema, so I had a lot of time to make up.

Before watching Quantum of Solace last year I had not been to a theater in over a decade - would just wait until it got on cable or went out and bought the DVD. I'm a James Bond fan as well, but purposely avoided seeing Casino Royale in the theaters because of all the bad things said about Daniel Craig as the new Bond. Didn't see CR until January of last year when I got the DVD and was blown away. I made up my mind that no one was going to stop me from seeing a movie on the big screen - so when QOS came to the theaters I went and saw it 11 times! Now I can't stop - but it's definitely money well spent.

^ ^ Pretty much my case, too; I can count on one hand the movies I've seen at the theater in the last decade. So, I didn't really feel badly about the cash outlay.
