just finished Surface the series

I just finished watching Surface. It's a pretty good series kind of like Abyss and Deep Blue Sea. It is also very apocalyptic near the end. I thought it was more fun than Firefly, another one season cancelled show.

But it's not character-driven (like Firefly), it's plot-driven (like 24). The show is a lot like 24 in the sense that there are no stand-alone episodes whatsoever. It's one continuous storyline. Every episode ends in a cliff hanger which connects one episode to the next smoothly. In contrast, Alias seems much more disjointed. Anyway, if you like fun sci-fi movies that lasts a season long you should definitely check out Surface.

I liked it, my weakness for cute little CGI creatues means I still have a picture of Nim on my computer somewhere.

Surface was a lot of fun - a Spielberg pastiche that melded Jaws, E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Unfortunately it ended on an open-ended note rather than one of resolution.

It's open ended and in a way closed off. It's a "What do we do know that we are correct?" ending. It's not a huge huge cliffhanger but 5 more episodes (a full season) would have been nice.

did they wrap this show up once they knew it was canceled or does it kinda end open ended?

Well by the end lot of the threads were resolved. But some questions still remains but you can kinda guess them with all the clues laid out. It's less of a cliffhanger than the series finale of Firefly and Angel.

How was Firefly's ending a cliffhanger?

There are Cliffhangers and then there is open ended endings, Fire and Surface are open ended.

Yes you are right, Firefly was open ended - in that there were still some plot threads unresolved. Angel series finale was a cliffhanger.

It's an ending in the "Twilight Zone" sense... where it ends in a world being completely changed.

i wish they had continued this show and invasion. those were two good shows and they came at the same season too.
