Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley developing Star Trek reboot for Paramount

:guffaw:

As someone who's watch Trek First run since 1969 - your assessment is laughable.

Trek continuity had NEVER been cohesive to the degree you suggest.

The Kurtzman era is no worse than the Original Trek era or the Berman era when it comes to what they've done to or with Trek franchise continuity.

I think the Berman era was pretty consistent. They made changes but one can see almost instantly that TNG.DS9 and Voyager are all more or less operating in the same setting and world as each other. I would even say Enterprise was like that as well. TOS or more of it's own thing but even in the case so many of those characters played by the same actors did somehow find themselves in Berman Trek time period.

Kurtzman Trek feels more connected in this way to the Kelvinverse movies. Familiar characters and some of the same toys but all done in a more sleek and modern way. Not to mention the stylized Pillar speak as I call it, just no longer exists in Trek. Trek characters now talk like we do or sadly to often like teenagers do in the modern shows.

I agree. I think the Berman era created a nice template of consistency. Like macaroni and cheese it became comfortable. The colors were muted, the music wasn't too loud, and it wrapped up most things by the end. It wasn't too complicated mostly and invited repeated viewing. It's safe, familiar and repeatable.

Youve got to admire how steadfast people hold to their beliefs that recreating a 60 year old aesthetic will bring in large amounts of uninitiated general audiences and justify the investment.
When you are a fan of something it is difficult to see outside of it. One of the reasons John Carter failed from a marketing sense was that the main producer of it was a huge fan and assumed it had much larger market impact and awareness in the general public and relied upon visuals, and short hand rather than leaning in to the more pulpy aspect, with John Carter of Mars.

The prequels do not fit.

TMP doesn't fit. One either learns flexibility or becomes consumed by obsession to the point that people are enemies.

TMP fits. Its 9 years later. The Enterprise was refit. It follows fron TOS and is a newer model enterprise.

Speaking of denying reality, Picard season 3 was fan wanky garbage with a plot that was so thin it almost dissolves. If we never get that level of garbage in Star Trek ever again, it will be too soon.

Im Sorry but 3 was a proper sequel and felt like it belonged in the tng universe. The previous two sessions were horrible.

The hilarious part is it used all the elements people complained about in Discovery.

It had its problems but not nearly as bad as std.

SNW stands for Super Nebula Wanking. It has been the wankiest of any Kurtzman Trek so far. It's wanked all over itself. ALL TOS CREW ✅ HOLODECK ✅ FIRST MEETING WITH A Q ✅ first meeting with the Metrons ✅ ripped off a couple TOS episodes ✅ every episode is a wank because there is TOS Crew in there, permanent marker ✅

At least the wank in Picard was actually enjoyable. Not to say there hasn't been any good eps of SNW because there has and I have liked them but that doesn't negate the fact that the producers have retconned more things in so few episodes than any Trek before it and on a far heavier scale.

But go ahead and bring up little things like Vulcanians, UESPA, James R. Kirk, Spock smiling etc. Because those things are minor compared to the things SNW and DISCO has done. 😄

Ah, there's the actual truth. "The only wank that's good is the wank I like."

Picard season 3 was nothing but references, reworked tropes, and reused characters from every prior show. It barely had a story to speak of underneath all that fanwank.

I'm not the one that brought up wank. 😂 Never said it was a bad thing either. But if people are gonna continue to throw stones at TOS and Berman Trek to prop up SNW I will point out that SNW had someone hold it's beer whilst wanking and Its been nothing but one big TOS reference. It's been one big character reuse show. But for some reason you guys won't acknowledge that.
