Joker Origin Story Announced

Including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Director and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Wonderful news and well deserved.
What is it adapted from? It's an original story and the character is taken from the comics. There are inspirations in there but it's not a live action version of The Killing Joke or anything.

Characters is all it takes. Other recent nominees include Logan, Before Midnight, Toy Story 3 and Borat.

Yep, this usually happens when Academy Darlings get involved and the Academy gets desperate. They feel they have to protect their Darling.

What are the Marvel nominations this year? :D

VFX, but the Academy made it clear they don't like it when CBMs are actually CBMs and the actors and directors don't go on about how they were just co-opting a CBM property for funding because they knew their film would bomb without doing so.

Remember, these are the people who refused to give the LOTR movies consideration until the end.

Of course, it doesn't change that without Black Panther, Joker wouldn't get anything. Whatever happens, Black Panther got its Gateway Noms that led to this.

Nah, just the unpleasant truth

In no surprise, there is not an ounce of truth in any of your "me hate DC! Why cant MCU get that kind if acclaim? W-wahh!" posts. That, and your sad attempts at revisionist history in your most recent posts.

Ohh, how it rattles your heart that no one thought that ever-so "dramatic" Iron Man death and/or Thanos did not deserve acting nods and certainly none for Best Picture.

Aww.

Don't worry, soon Joker will be a memory and folks will go back to eating up the monotonous slop that is the MCU.

Probably...but next time it will be different: instead of an oversized purple guy in armor threatening 50 cameos, it will be an oversized guy dressed in purple trying to threaten 80 cameos! Fresh stuff!

In no surprise

You still can't fathom the sad truth about DC. How all it ever gets is Pity Awards because it just never put the real effort in.

Sorry, but I'm through treating you with kid's gloves. Ledger got his award for dying, and that's what helped Dark Knight as well. That's all. Nothing revisionist about it.

And even then, it couldn't get Dark Knight a Best Picture Nom. That honor was claimed for CBMs by the MCU.

RDJ asked not to be nominated, and MCU already got a Best Pic Nom before anyone else. Something no DC film pulled off before.

Still beats a guy who just sits there and laughs a lot who "acts" by losing weight.

I think Leto’s performance is underrated. I’m not saying it’s on the same level as Ledger or Phoenix, but I liked it.

Also, Ledger and Phoenix had much better scripts to work with.

What’s amazing about this character is how different they all are. Every actor who takes on the role has a unique take. Romero, Nicholson, Hamill, Ledger, Leto, Phoenix... every one of them completely original.

Come to think of it, “original” might be the wrong term. Try “ashamed of all that came before.”

I'm at a point that I find @Anwar 's continuing ramblings insufferable, but to simply put him on ignore is no solution, as he's driving the conversation. So many, myself included, have been successfully baited into replying to his ridiculous claims, and I have to wonder why.
We know what he's about, we know where he stands, we even know he's doing this as some kind of "revenge" for perceived persecution of the MCU, he's admitted as much in previous posts.
We've tried honest discussion, we've tried reason, we've tried calling out his double standards, we've tried calling out his persecution complex, we've even tried ridicule, and nothing works. At best we shut him up for a day or two, but then we're right back where we started, and this over each and every thread on Comic Book Movies that aren't MCU.

It might be time to ignore him. He won't change his behavior, he's enjoying his hatred of all things not-MCU too much. Nothing we say to him will change that, so maybe we shouldn't say anything at all to him. I hereby pledge not to respond to his posts anymore, in fact I'll try my best not to even read them, and I am calling on everyone else who wants to have honest and reasonable discussions on comic book movies again to do the same. It's an extreme measure, but it appears to me the only thing left to do.

I'll knock it off when the success of Non-MCU films are no longer used to take swipes AT the MCU. What started this was Joker fans using it's success as some kind of platform against modern CBMs.

Wanting to watch our movies without having to put up with someone else saying "This one film will destroy all yours past present and future!" isn't too much to ask.

Appreciating it for being different isn't using it as a platform against modern comic book movies. I've bought lots of tickets to lots of comic book movies over the course of my life, including the MCU.

This is the Joker thread, no one is forcing you to come in here.

A good example of a film that didn't take itself dead stone head-up-its-ass serious and as a result became the classic it is.

Nah, it's just not head up its ass pretentiousness. Like Westworld.

There are plenty of valid MCU criticisms, but pretentious? If there’s any superhero franchise that thinks it’s making deep statements about the human condition, it’s Batman. MCU doesn’t pretend not to be morally simplistic the way DK and Joker do.
