Personally, I'm psyched about this! I'll be honest, I've struggled with Twelve's run - too dark ("Why children?" "Less to throw away." *shudder*) and too inconsistently written - but this holds promise.
It might just be my love of strong female characters clouding my impression, but something in the demeanour of Thirteen, not least that flash of a smile, makes me think I'm really going to enjoy travelling with her.

I can't say this is a big surprise. Many fans speculated when Missy was introduced that it was a test for the idea of a female Doctor. After all, they introduced a female Master to see how fans would receive the idea of a character who has always been male, now being a female. So it made sense that it was a test to see if fans could accept a female Doctor. And then, the finale even had a couple lines where the Master asks if the future is female and the Doctor quips "we can only hope", which seemed like a big hint for a female doctor. In many ways, Missy was probably done to help prepare fans for a female Doctor by giving us time with a Doctor-like character that was female.
I wonder if the show will explain the female Doctor as a nod to Missy. Think about it: the Doctor does not know that Missy was going to stand with him. Maybe Capaldi's Doctor picks a female regeneration as a way to pay homage to his friend, Missy, whom he hoped he could change? That would be very cool, I think.
I am willing to give a female doctor a chance. I think it will be important for the show to make it clear to the audience that this is the same Doctor, through the right mannerisms and dialogue. It is always important after a regeneration but it will be more important this time because the physical change is more radical. It will definitely be interesting to see how the actress pulls it off.
I do hope the show stays away from silly gender jokes. No scene where the Doctor looks down her pants and says something like "Well, that's new. Never had one of those before!" I think that would be really cringe worthy. Although, I do expect the Doctor will make several references to his new gender.

In previous years, we've seen romantic undertones between a male Doctor and a female companion. They might flip that now with a female Doctor and a male companion. Another difference is that they can have the Doctor act more female without it looking really weird. I definitely think there will be some interesting writing opportunities for the show to do some fresh new things.
Conclusion: with good writing and good acting, a female Doctor can totally work. A big reason why Missy worked so well was the great acting and great writing.

I don't have to explain crap. I don't think the doctor should be a woman. Sorry, it's just how I feel about it. Call me sexist all day long. But that doesn't make me one. I just don't want to watch it anymore. Its rubbish. It isn't Doctor Who. So..respect other people's opinion. You like it. But that doesn't mean everyone else has to.

As far as I know, the Doctor often employs a sonic screwdriver to resolve conflicts in adventures across time and space. Not a sonic penis.

You don't have to respect someone's opinion, that's absurd. Some opinions deserve nothing but mockery, like believing the world is flat. Opinions can be dead wrong.

I'm unsure how I feel about it, I'm going to keep an open mind. But saying it's rubbish and not worth watching sounds extremely sexist.
