Jodie is back for next year.

That wasn't so much my point. My point is that the market is saturated. It isn't how much of a gap there is between Netflix shows, it's about how many different Netflix (et al) shows are being churned out. The pond is getting bigger and Doctor Who seems to be becoming a smaller fish in it.

Right, but is churning out Doctor Who quicker really a solution to that problem? Because, honestly, I don't even have the time to watch all the shows I'd like to watch, and I asked around and don't seem to be alone with that problem. Adding even more Doctor Who would only cause more saturation. I personally would probably cut back on some other show in favor of DW, but others might choose the other way.

In comparison, limiting the output of DW episodes not only makes those more of an event for the audience, it also gives the makers a chance to put more effort into each individual episode.

Come to think of it, maybe they should move away from the weekly schedule and make Doctor Who a monthly event.

The trouble is we were promised that the reduction in the number of episodes and the 50 minute running time would lead to better quality episodes, but that doesn't seem to have been the case.

You know, as disappointing as this news is, I'm strangely cool with it. There will be plenty of other shows to watch in 2019, movies to see, books to read. I'll stay busy, and entertained. Doctor Who will be there in 2020.
This also suggests to me that we might not even get a NYD episode oin 2020
I think we'll get something New Year's Day 2020, though I wouldn't be surprised if instead of a separate special it's actually the season 12 premiere. That's assuming the reports are true that season 12 will indeed air January 2020.

So, what you're saying is, the food's terrible and the portions are too small.

Yeah, I’m cool with it as well. There’s plenty on my plate to see and read. I’m not hurting for entertainment. Who isn’t the only thing I watch and need.

Maybe it's time to make another spin-off like Trek is doing to fill in the space with the parent show, gone for however long it will take for the next season to get started. Not sure though why this was seen as news. The rumor has always been as far as I can tell about her being or not being around for a season 3 and a cut in half season 2. I don't recall any rumors of her leaving after season 1.

Again, I point to Discovery. I think we're definitely working around schedules, writing time and such. Also, when RTD was at the helm the show pretty much entered production as soon as the previous season ended. That hasn't really been the case since... Season 5? My guess is we get a New Year's Special next year and the show starts in January/February 2020.

The question is will be people be excited for it's return. Alot of that will revolve around their being a cliffhanger of some sorts. I think the show is kind of a mixed bag. Some like it and some don't but is it so beloved that people will get frustrated while waiting for it anymore of do people just move onto a new show and it's out of sight, out of mind for almost a year. I guess any new cast members might also drum up some interest or a change in format in some way.
