Jerry Doyle (Mr. Garibaldi from Babylon 5) has passed beyond the Rim

This. Exactly this.
JMS said:
So dear sweet universe, if you are paying attention in the vastness of interstellar space, take a moment from plotting the trajectory of comets and designing new DNA in farflung cosmos, and spare a thought for those who you have plucked so untimely from our ranks...and knock it off for a while.

Because this isn't fair.

And Jerry Doyle would be the first person to tell you that. Right before he put a fist in your face. Which is what I imagine he's doing right now, on the other side of the veil.

J. Michael Straczynski
Executive Producer, Babylon 5

I credit Jerry's portrayal of Garibaldi as a big part of the reason I managed to get off the path I was on - slouching towards alcoholism. He basically saved my ass. I'm sad.

JMS on Jerry Doyle's death.

Also an amusing pic I found of the main B5 cast, sans Peter Jurasik.

What terrible news. He really brought humanity to Garibaldi and made him the perfect friend and foil to both Commander Sinclair and Captain Sheridan.

RIP, Mr Doyle and Mr Garibaldi. :(

So very sad... the B5 cast is just tragic. We have lost far too many.

I interviewed Jerry once, and I had technical issues and never got it off the tapes... I really need to try again.

I followed him on Twitter and when the notification came up yesterday I was hoping it was bullshit but it soon became apparent it wasn't :( They haven't said anything about cause of death but I wonder if he's been ill for a while? I only joined Twitter late last year but initially he always seemed to pop up in my Twitter feed, tweeting multiple times a day but I did think the other week that I rarely seemed to see tweets from him any more.

As others, including JMS, have said politically speaking we were probably not on the same page, but he always came across as an interesting guy, I saw him at a con in Bristol, oh must have been 20 years ago now, I have his autograph somewhere, one of many things packed away for a house move that I never unpacked for some reason.

Right from the off Garibaldi was one of my favourite characters in B5, so Mr Doyle will be missed. Rationally I know there's no 'curse', that it's just random shitty luck that means so many have been taken, but still I hope the universe lays off the Babylon 5 cast for a while!

Yeah, that. I thought the whole piece JMS was very nice until that part, which was asinine. But this isn't a thread for dissecting JMS, himself. I posted my feelings about this news earlier. :wah:

This was from the B5 panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2015. Peter wasn't there.

So sad. :(

I cannot wait for 2016 to be over.
Better get used to it. The baby boom combined with the advent of tv and pop music in the 50s-70s and, in general, the rise of celebrity culture means that A LOT of people became famous in the 60s and 70s and these folks aren't getting any younger (and a lot of celebrities will die young from hard living). We're going to find that losing celebrities large and small is going to be a regular occurrence from now on.

RIP Mr. Doyle and Mr. Garibaldi.

I've been showing a friend B5, and it seems unfortunately serendipitous that next week she'll see "Chrysalis" for the first time. :(

A friend of mine is about to start a re-watch and commented that he knows that he's going to be running into scenes where the actors for all of the characters on the screen have died. I'm reminded of one where Sinclair, Franklin and Garibaldi all discussed the young boy's illness in 'Believers'. :weep:
