Jeri Ryan

The problem with nudity is that once an actress goes nude in a movie, she's got no surprises left. 'It's sexier to conceal than reveal.'
I can agree to that. I was in Switzerland one summer and their commercials were nude for soap sales. It sort of normalizes it which is a mixed thing for me. Maybe that's the point though. Normalizing would resolve this anxiety about kids or people with image issues (although we edit everything so I suppose that's not worth presenting) but then the mystery is gone. tough call. As a parent the normalizing is a bit appealing to me. Sexually, I like mystery and frankly I don't want to see strangers junk on my prime time tv. :)

why do people still pay for things like playboy when it's all free online?
Boy, you said it. The airbrushed models with their sideswept hair, tasteless lingerie hanging off their silicon breasts and moronic poses wouldn't even be worth looking at if Playboy was giving issues away, for free. I never understood it ... even when I was kid I recognised it as garbage. A pal of mine would be all like, "oh! Look at Ms. June!" You look at Ms. June ... not me. The magazine was never at all sexy, never hip ... it was just kind of Old Mannish and rather boring, actually.

Well I understand why some like those pictures, but they are all free online I don't know why people pay for magazines.

Yeah, maybe he figures Anna Nicole Smith's last issue and others like it will put him in the black, in a few year's time? People are always buying shit they don't need with money they don't have. There's no sense in trying to hang a reason on it, it's just something to do.

I really enjoyed Jeri Ryan in the second season of Bosch. She played the femme-fatale role perfectly. Her character made several transitions throughout the season. The ending was open-ended when it came to her role and I wonder if we will see her back for season 3. At least to wrap up her story arc.

On the issue of Playboy (old editions), I would have preferred the nude pics over the articles any time of the day. The one issue I ever owned, which I got for free during a seminar for Women in Computer Science (no joke!), was full of the instant opinion of truck drivers and their bruised masculinity. I do welcome the new Playboy format, though where I live It is still NSFW.

Well, according to Instagram page, Jeri Ryan comes back in S3 (there are Mimi Rogers and Stephen Culp (JAG?). :)

-> about her character of Veronica Allen, Ryan says that "She's got quite a colorful past, and I think she gets Bosch a little bit unbalanced". Still on her role, Ryan adds that she is "a former stripper/hooker/porn star but her character is no bimbo" and that "
she is comfortable playing blond bombshells if the character is written right but she doesn have any interest in playing a bimbo, a character that's completely objectified"...

Sorry but for me, her character of Seven of Nine is at the same time a bimbo (a woman who puts forward her assets, who plays her physical appearance and who is not afraid of caught the eye), completly objectified but that Ryan's merit was to make Seven interesting.
-> I note that Braga seems to like recruiting bimbos (even if they aren't always blond), because in his follwong series, Star Trek: Entreprise, he did the same in choosing Jolene Blalok in the role of T'Pol and in dressing her with a suit mighty skin-tight. But the success wasn't "au rendez-vous".

Lol come on. You're crazy if you think Seven of Nine is a "bimbo." There is nothing air-headed about her. Plus, she never "plays on" her physical appearance. The show does but the character doesn't. The show also goes to great length to show how capable Seven is. I think what Jeri Ryan said is true in that just because a role may call for someone to be attractive, it doesn't mean it's inherently a bimbo role. Bimbos on TV typically serve no other purpose than to be dumb/ditzy and pretty; they don't add anything of significance to the storyline.

Also, on a side note, there's nothing wrong with a pretty woman who doesn't mind catching the eyes of others--that doesn't mean she's a bimbo...

Star Trek has never had "bimbos" (maybe Orian Slave Girls). Yes there have been many very attractive women dressed in skin tight oufits that leave little to the imagination, or dressed in very little of anything, but they have always been intelligent capable women.

When I think of a bimbo I don't think about what a woman 'looks' like. I think about how she acts. A bimbo doesn't have a usable brain cell in her head, is always giggling and generally creating chaos. When other women object to that trope they are labelled 'jealous' when the truth of the matter is they don't like that sort of person because she makes women in general look bad. A smart, capable woman who also happens to be beautiful is generally admired by other women.

Seven was beautiful, they made her dress up in that silly costume but she was respected within the universe of the show. With the exception of Harry bumbling around we never saw any of the men treat her in a sexist manner. When she gave her opinion, they listened. I don't know what they said about her in their equivalent of a locker room but they didn't bring those attitudes with them while they were on duty.

Personally I feel more jealous of the strong capable women than I do of the bimbos.

In regards to Seven, even when Harry was bumbling around he was still respectful and admired her intelligence.

Well, I may not take offence easily, but I admit that to be treated of "crazy" (even with a "lol") by a newbie is just ...
(I gave an opinion. That you don't share it, is one thing and I fully understand it, that you're insulting the limit, is another. So please, more courtesy in the future! Thanks. :))

Of course, there is nothing wrong: as woman, if I see a handsome guy in front of me, I am certainly not going to look away but I shall rather - and discreetly - appreciate "the view" (and don't count on me to turn my head with an intent to subdue him. It's just vulgar -> I don't like men doing it to me, it isn't to reproduce it on the others, right?!).
About the term of blond "bimbo" in itself, I'm sorry to announce this but it's often the expression which associated with the character of Seven of Nine.
For my part, even if I like this iconic character very much, I couldn't help thinking of Seven as the bimbo in the half of S4 (and let's be honest, Seven was created in this direction to raise the temperature among the male public, which was - and still is - the main target of Star Trek and the choice of Jeri Ryan with her very advantageous physical appearance was just logical). BUT fortunately for us (and the actress herself), from the "blond bimbo" aspect, Jeri Ryan quickly gave to her her role, a true personality, making of Seven, someone endearing, allying charm, sensibility and intelligence to be resold. The result was and still is undeniable: Seven of Nine became quickly one of the favourite characters of fans of Voyager AND even the whole ST series, what was and still is well deserved.
Alas, all good things having an end and the audiences fell again from s5, once the element of surprise lasted.

I try not to be jealous of any other woman but you are right about Harry.

Didn't mean to offend, I meant it more in jest and not to be taken seriously; I'll try be more aware of how my comments may be received.

I am a newbie but I have become very interested in voyager in the past year (in large part because I think Seven is such a cool character) and I have, pathetically so, consumed a lot of information and interviews, fan culture and behind the scenes tidbits/thoughts/theories, etc and I honestly cannot recall Seven ever being referred to as a bimbo. I've heard her be described as "appealing to the lowest common denominator" for ratings due to her outfit; I've heard her being described as the "Borg Babe" and of course, I've seen countless remarks about her figure. But again, the character was never a bimbo. You yourself just described her as endearing, charming, sensible and intelligent--that is the opposite of a bimbo character. While Jeri Ryan did do a fantastic job with the role, she said herself she wouldn't have signed on if the character wasn't already rich with possibilities.

I only wanted to warn you that in this forum, the participants are usually courteous between them, even if sometimes, some people like to pull your leg, it always remains very nice and often funny. And besides, it is one of reasons why I like discussing here. :techman:
-> if you had treated me with a " what a crazy girl you are to think that" after several posts, I would have smiled but yes, there, I was very surprised. Especially since it was the first post coming from you, which I read.
Anyway, it's already over for me and I'm pretty sure that in the future, we shall have the opportunity to tease each other more than of reason! :D

About the using of the word "bimbo", I think that it is a question of culture. I come from France and here, as well, the term of "babe" is unknown, as well the "bimbo" one is often used (in a mindless way and distorted, for sure) when we speak about a young woman who gets dressed in provocative way, highlighting her attributes through her poses and/or her tight clothes. In the first part of s4, some people like me, had difficulty in overriding this image (furthermore, I liked Jennifer Lien's sweet Kes. So, to see the actress leaving in a forced way to make the place available to Jeri Ryan and her advantageous forms, greatly disturbed me. I know it was unfair to think like that but well...!). But once this phase was over, I eventually appreciated Ryan acting (she really took up her character as Mulgrew with Janeway, Picardo with the Doctor and Russ with Tuvok) and the complexity of her character, who became me more and more endearing. And for that, just :techman:

That explains a lot. To us, it's not how a woman dresses or how she looks but the way she behaves.
