Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

Hi Gang,

I'm not doing so well at the moment. The infection in my leg hit me harder than was anticipated and took a lot more treatment than expected.

Not really up to doing much at the moment, so it's going to be a case of "as and when".

Sorry, more soon.

have you ever considered recording the build? I know some gaming live streamers have keyboards that show they key commands used too. It could help someone learn. Also, that mesh as is might be low poly enough to be textured for Bridge commander, if I may make the request?

I haven't built anything for Bridge Commander in over a decade (Blake's 7 Ship pack, and the Trek V Shuttle are still knocking about).

Looks can be deceiving, the secondary hull and nacelles came off the Challenger Class I built and are quite high poly.

I didnt know you did stuff for bridge commander back in the day. I am a returning modder from that time period too, about 15 yrs. You may have heard of me. Whats her poly at this stage, out of curiosity? Also, I was wondering if I could request some higher res orthos of a ship...I have orthos from your thread, but they are smaller ones, and the detail will be difficult when turned into panes in blender, for NCC 1937 (the beginning of thread page 37, for reference) since there doesn't seem to be an attachment function here. I am going to try and used the blender tut for making that crappy misshaped tos connie on youtube to try and make my own model of it. I Find my self needed to squint hard to get my eyes to focus on the orig at 100% and of course they pixel if I zoom, so if I can get them 2-3x the current res..that'd be great. (Hard to make out the torpedo tubes deflector detail ect) At the very least, I should be able to do most of the ship, and we already have freely usable nacelles, so if I cant make those happen, I can just have ZZ or Centarus chop off some nacelles and stick them on later. It's too bad you dont have a sketchfab as it's a really good way to spin a model around to see details..zoom and all. I was going to try cardassian first, I had a very simple model from the armadad days called the Kaldor class, but its terrible, 586 faces, from back in 2001. I needs to be brought back to life (with a poly count around 10-20k). But to learn controls and stuff, the tmp of yours is about the simplest design I can find that I'd love to have in BC. I doubt ill be making much TOS anyways.

Current polycount is: 112005. That will go up.

I cut my teeth building stuff for Bridge Commander back in the day. I used Milkshape 3D to begin with, until my dad very kindly got me a copy of 3DS Max.

Page 37... That's my Delphis Class USS Horizon NCC-86176 - an original design that sat on paper for a long time before seeing the light of day. Is that what you are talking about?

More soon.

Doh. I dunno how I did that but it was 3am. it's page 31:rolleyes:. and I guess it's a pathfinder. also, any tips on boat hulls...do you actualy use a cylinder to boolean off the curved cut on the back? I assume the deflector cut out is the same process.

That would be the Sutton Class USS Pathfinder.

The basic is a high-poly sphere, cut in half, shaped into the curves I need - and yes, the undercut is a boolean using a shaped cylinder, same as the deflector cut in.

It's well worth looking at tutorials on how to build ships - may seem a ballache, but it gives you a feel when you start doing your own stuff. I'm not a good teacher, lol. I lack the skills to actually impart knowledge to others. I've tried, but it comes down to my autism, I guess, or ADHD. Some things are simple for me, and I can't understand why they aren't for others. The reverse is true as well. It's frustrating.

Anyways, more soon.

I am the same with adhd. Dunno if I am on the spectrum but I strongly suspect if I was a kid nowdays I would be....even if you just recorded a video of you making something....they have the gamer overlays you can do during videos that show what buttons you are pressing so you dont even need to talk through it. but whatever the case, I have that connie tutorial by imaginaship, sadly he didnt say which version of blender he was using, which might matter lol.

Just saying, I got my AuDHD diagnosed last year at age 43. Learning more about how my brain works and with the help of meds, I can function a lot better than before that.

I was 47 when I got my diagnosis of Autism, and 54 when I got my ADHD tag; until then, I was just "weird." But I've embraced it now; it's a part of me and always has been.
