Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

The drones in Oblivion had rotating weapons and were far more symmetrical, this... is a pilotless fighter that can be launched from a much larger ship for offence or defence, depending on the orders given.

Oh, it's very clearly not the same thing at all, it's just when I looked at your render there was this little voice in the back of my head saying "that looks like something you've seen." The general shape is just enough for me to have made the connexion.

I'm sure once you've got a proper system again and put in all the details, even that small resemblance will go away, because a lot of it is down to the "featureless white sphere." The Oblivion drones have a very slick "iPhone" aesthetic and the untextured model evokes that.

I cannot wait to get the new system up and running - even with an eGPU I am limited to basic study models at the moment, which - is ok, but I'd like to do more.

More soon

Had a little play around with the Constitution-Jeffries build, tweaked the defector dish so it's an outie, rather than an innie:

This is about the limit my laptop with an eGPU can do - and everything has to be focused on the rendering. Older versions of 3DS Max, which I guess 2018 now is, rely more on the CPU than a GPU.

Anyways, enjoy! More soon.

Welcome back, Jayru (aka JSnaith)! Really sorry to hear about the attack and hospital stay — that's horrific. Losing 12+ years of work is unimaginable. But huge respect for getting back in the saddle. That Horizon (Oldfield class) is gorgeous — classic Excelsior bones but with cleaner lines. And the Clarke replacement looks promising too. Glad the fanfilm group still has one Ingram version alive. Looking forward to following your rebuild journey. Keep posting updates!

very nice.
Thank you

It has been an interesting journey - but glad I could make it again.

Update:

Khadas got in touch today with some news; my new system is on it's way and has been upgraded to expedited. In real terms I should have it by Wednesday 8 April. Life being what it is, I have some big hospital appointments on the 8 April, which means I won't be unboxing or installing until 11/12 April. Just the way things are.

BUT...

All things being equal, I will be back up and running at pace in the next few weeks.

More soon :-)

A more refined study model:

And... In other news, the new rig should ship on Friday. So mid-April is the likely point when I'll get it.

More soon.

Hopefully you can do the ‘Refit’ NX a bit better than what’s been shown… It’s nice, but there are some awkward aspects to it that could use your skills!

Cheers,

I have a lot of models on my list to do (and redo).

The realisation that the TMP era ships are woefully underscaled is playing on my mind, and I want to rebuild all the ones I have done to "the right scale" - whatever that will be. Blame it on building in shuttle bays and finding the shuttles don't fit at the current scale. A rebuild would be required, or the windows and docking hatches won't be right. I will be playing with that. My AuADHD won't allow for anything other than getting it right

I also have my massive carrier/battleship that I want to get right and detailed. I've been playing with that idea for too long not to do it.

The NX Class - I will have a play with it, but I can't state that I will be doing a particular version of it. Naturally, I won't be building the Enterprise or Columbia - they already exist. But maybe the Challenger, Discover, Atlantis or Endeavour would fit with what I have in mind.

The latest shipping update I have predicts that we should get the new system on Tuesday, 7 April - which would be very good, as I have absolutely nothing else going on that date. It would mean I could make a start on the installations and the like, and maybe get close to being ready to get back to the coal face. And how I have missed the coal face!

Writing? I've done a fair amount (even scored an award for a short poem), but 3D stuff? Yeah - I have decided that I have not enjoyed this enforced break.

Anyways, more soon.

That would be interesting, we already saw differences between Enterprise and Columbia and it would make sense each new NX class had improvements over the previous ones.

Agreed. It would make sense at this stage of Starfleet's ability that each ship would improve on the last rather than with the later batch-built ships.
