Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

There was a question about the Bussard Collectors. I think I have an answer:

Comments welcome.

The intake cutouts echoing the TMP Enterprise nacelles look great. Not sure if it is a good idea to turn engine parts into red/green navigation lights though. Has there been any instances of them being lit like that?
Knew I'd missed something, I'll turn them into deflection crystals and find a new home for the navigation lights ;-)

Y’know, I think this is one of your best builds yet. These upgrades look great and, better, make perfect in-universe sense.
Thank you. You know the good thing about this community? No one chases you with flaming torches and pitchforks when you do something controversial, like scaling up the Oberth to make it work :-)

Are there going to be different registries or just one?

Oh and let's not forget the PU-236 Space Modulator Assembly...
At the moment, she's just going to be the Apollo. I'll go back at the end and set something up for different reg numbers.

Now, Bugs was my fav cartoon character growing up. He taught me a lot. I wouldn't be surprised if someone snuck one aboard.

More later.

I don't mind that you have upscaled her. That was done decades ago. There was a set of very limited blueprints made around 1980. They are available at Cygnus x-1.

What really gets my goat, is that the lack of care by the people that produce these shows with very little sense...the destruction of the Grissom is a case in point. No, screens, no shields ready to go, no pre-planned escape routes...Captains that don't have a clue.

Come on, really? No security procedures implemented.

You guys and gals, and girls show that you at least have brains.

I don't know, brains must be a commodity...

I have my moments. And some things are done just for a story. Sad but true.

Updates, nacelles fixed, formation lights added -

Ok, here's where things get controversial - thoughts and opinions welcome. I have saved a copy of the forward sensor bay so I can go back to the original shape. But, I thought I'd try this on for size, and a lot of sensors would still fit in this section:

Another “controversial” thing you could do is have a blue warp coil glowy area in the recessed bits in between the fins on the back and underside of the nacelles. I did that for a physical vacuform Grissom kit I built many years ago, basically cutting identical pieces of clear styrene and sandwiching them between opaque pieces, slightly larger, and stuck a blue LED behind the assembly inside the main nacelle body and it provided a really cool effect that’s consistent with other designs that used glowing warp coils - brighter closer to the light and getting dimmer further back, not just a solid blue glow from front to back. Just a thought. Hopefully I explained it well enough… :)

When this ship goes to warp? There is a glow from the nacelles. It's just switched off at the moment, and may need to be remapped.

Tomorrow (30 June) marks a year since my father-in-law passed away. Hence why I am taking some time away to spend with my partner and mum-in-law. I will be coming back to finish the Apollo off. This has turned into one of my fav builds. There are some things I have left to do, and the reason I'm going to list them here is so I don't forget;

  • Add tractor beam emitter.
  • Add spot lights for self-lighting rig.
  • Self-lighting rig.
  • Interior of shuttle bays.
  • Shuttles (two, I think, with the other bays holding work bees and maybe a travel pod).
  • Bug fixes, issue with the top of the secondary hull needs to be fixed. Wrong texture maps used in places, needs sorting.
  • REMOVE pannels on the "sensor hump".
I think that about covers what I have left to do. Obviously, nothing more is going to be done until earliest on Tuesday. Yes, I am open to removing the deflector dish and having a smooth "sensor hump" in it's place. No, no aft torpedoes on this ship. She has plenty of phaser banks however, for defence. Yes, she would have a smaller crew - probably 200-250, but I need to think about that. No, I won't change the phaser layout - this is not a heavy cruiser, this is a science cruiser, let's keep it science focused. Yes, the shuttle bays are big enough for any of the TMP era shuttles I've built. Not sure which I'm leaning more towards at the moment, the TMP or TFF version.

As always, comments welcome, more later.

“Is it my imagination or does it look a lot meaner this time?”

Kruge was stuck in Earth’s Hell…half the time dangling next to Frieza, half the time on his old BoP running from Oberths the size of Star Destroyers.

Kruge ambushed the mini version of the Oberth. He might have a different time with a giant version in "The Naked Now" :)
