Jayru (JSnaith's) 3D Trek

I may have a go at that one. Still can't see your images (ImageChest is free to use, and doesn't block peeps in the UK!)

More soon.
I keep forgetting. Sorry about that. I've been meaning to move over to ImgChest for a while now. All my ImgUr pics are downloaded, but I keep having other things pop up that get in the way, mostly due to me having to fix some stupid shit on my wife's car nearly every weekend for the past couple of months.

No worries, just an FYI; us Brits can't see Imgur stuff any more.

Updates - rebuilt the impulse deck on the shuttle. It's more accurate now:

And had a play at some scene renders. Damnit, I'm going to have to build a hangar bay. Good thing I left provision to do that.

More soon!

Is that whole thing on its way to being resolved or is it a permanent blockage?
New UK cyber laws mean that sites have to police themselves and remove content deemed unsafe - the biggie being child porn. Imagur is one of a handful of sites that refused to comply with those laws and decided instead to withdraw their service from the UK. The EU is about to adopt similar laws, meaning that Imagur will have to make a choice: abide by child safety laws or face prosecution. Or, they can do what they did in the UK and withdraw their service. The sad truth is their site is rife with child porn, and they would have faced prosecution and fines. They claim it's a breach of free speech, I personally think they are up their own bums and too lazy to do anything about it. In the end, it will hurt their own business.

Back to the 3D world - just built a way to retract the landing leg on the shuttle. It is coming together nicely. More on that tomorrow.

Wow... I knew it was bad but not that bad. I certainly don't think it's right to continue to support a site that allows ChiPo on its systems, so I guess I'll make a concerted effort to move out of there very soon. That, and I personally feel their interface they built around hosting images (the primary reason for their initial existence) has gone to complete shit in the past couple of years and become quite cumbersome to negotiate.

similar things were said about tumblr when it gutted itself to be on the app store and google store, when other, much larger, platforms had multiple orders of magnitude worse issues with said content and were not forced off until compliant.

"allows" is certainly the wrong word for "dealing with according to site policy and US federal and California law, and thumbing their nose at what they perceive to be unduly invasive". thinking they aren't robust enough is another thing. anywhere you put images is likely to have some that slipped through whatever systems are in place, and the only places that are actually intentionally allowing it are gonna be in the deep recesses.

as an NSFW creator who has seen several bouts of this over the past decade or two, i am extremely wary of this sort of thing, because i've seen who and what it actually gets directed at, and it never seems to be people actually harming anyone at all, let alone children.

always kind of thought that thing was a bit silly, at least since i started thinking about how things are designed. it doesn't really have anywhere to go, does it just lift up? there's not really enough segments to telescope into the back, and there's no space inside for it to go, besides the systems access and toilet compartment... and the nacelles already support the thing when it's on the ground...

 I love this! And I can’t get this idea out of my head. So I just had to create this render. It works so well that one has to wonder why they never did this for real (assuming they didn’t) …

now i want to make a "food truck" shuttle. maybe a module for my lliason cutter...
module types:
passenger
cargo (dry, small crates, crew accessible)
cargo (dry, bulk, no crew access)
cargo (liquid tankage)
Misc. (taco truck)

Yeah, I made a choice to move away - but I can't access my user profile anymore to delete content, so... there you go. But that's also why I am reposting images of older projects. Imagur is not a site I want any association with.

Yeah, I'm thinking of changing it. I can fold it up, but then it takes up room in the aft compartment. I could make it static, but it looks weird... Or I could add pads to the aft part of the nacelles and balance it out that way... I shall think on it. I don't think it was ever seen on the full-size version, so maybe it should be "retired."

Do not tempt me.

i will say, whatever my opinions on other parts of the matter are (and not really wanting to spoil the thread anymore) if imgur's stated reason is that the UK laws are a violation of free speech, than it's pretty hypocritical of them since they banned and purged all NSFW content themselves a couple of years ago, and unprompted by outside sources at the time, afaik.

---------------

is it weird that i have trouble modeling something - the TOS shuttle - that has been shown onscreen so many times, with so many screenshots and diagrams and reinterpretations and attempts to reconcile various scale inconsistancies,

but have mostly resolved something - the liason cutter mentioned in the novel Best Destiny and never used anywhere else, to my knowledge - that has been noodling about in my brain for decades? i mean, i need to decide where to actually put the door, and finish the inside, but.

UK scuttled all pretenses of "free speech" when they started arresting people for "mean tweets".
What is free speech? Is it the right to say anything you want without censor or consequences? Or is it the right to say anything you want, but with consequences?

You see, we live in a world where it's not alright to say things like; all gay people should be killed (being gay myself I'm not advocating you lot kill me). We class it as hate speech in the UK, which is a criminal offence. Stephen Yaxley-Lenon (aka Tommy Robinson, Wayne King and a few other names he uses) feel they should be free to say whatever they want, even if it's untrue and incites violence. Note, he's free to believe whatever he wants, but he's not free to spout it or act on it without consequence.

Strangely enough, most countries, including the USA, operate the same way. I will also add that as an openly gay married man, I have more freedoms in the UK than I would in the USA. Go figure.

Pick and choose; a consequence-free society, or one where you can be held to account. I know what I prefer.

the former, of course. until you put words into actions. and most people are all talk.
the usa actually does not act in the same manner. does not criminally go after people for words unless it's things like specific, direct threats, "i'm gonna kill that guy, over there" and such.

the worry is that if your policy is "criminality and jail for the scoundrels and people saying things the government has deemed naughty" then you will find lists of those things expanding until you cannot effectively say anything about anything.

note that support for the right to say things freely, even shitty things, even extraordinarily terrible things, is not support for the things said; but the belief they should be countered with more words; and also distrust that a government would determine such things fairly and not simply take opportunity to run roughshod. certainly i have seen enough terrible hypocrisy of late out of far too people i thought i was aligned with, behaving exactly (or even worse) as the perception they have of the other side, that i would NEVER trust them in such a position.

i prefer a society where people are not willing to give up everyone's rights, including their own, due to the words or actions of bad actors, for a pretense of safety; and have found that for many, "accountable" means "blameable, or scapegoatable"....

it has struck me with tng era-ish quarters and associated windows, especially on upper saucer decks
"sure, my room is thirty feet across, and has a great view, but i have to duck for 90 percent of that room" XD

and then on the bottom ones "sure my room is thirty feet across and i have a great view, but i can only use about ten percent of it at all"

maybe the bottom ones are into cetacean ops where floorspace and walking don't matter

Yes, go ahead with the Liason
Cutter. :techman::techman::techman::techman:
i am, but like most of my cg projects, i can't work on it for too long at a stretch before bouncing to another one because i had an idea for improvement based on what i was doing on the one i started wth. or... idk my mind just wanders off

I make sure to build my rooms and windows so that they actually work as rooms ;-)
