This is freakin amazing. The wave is just spreading all over the township.

The waves from these Earthquakes aren't high compared to those of say a Super Typhoon, but they come with far more water and power behind them

A 8.9 hitting Japan is just about the limit of what the newest Earthquake resistant buildings can stand. If a 9.5+ hit Tokyo I doubt even the new Earthquake resistant buidlings would be able to avoid toppling.

I just turned on my tv to watch something on the DVR and saw this breaking news (local station is showing feed from one of Japan's news crews). Horrible, horrible... the images of the waves and all the stuff being carried across the land... wow.

I'm guessing that those on the Pacfic coast here will have tsunami warnings.

Another Earthquake magnitude 7.1 just happened off the coast of Honshu.

You mean a separate one from the aftershocks of the 8.9?

Wow, that reminds me of the pictures from Hurricane Katrina, only, of course, a whole lot worse. I honestly can't believe what is going on right now.

The Al Jazeera link just showed a picture of a wave sweeping up land and it looks absolutely incredible, but very harrowing and crazy at the same time.

They also said Japan is one of those countries who is very prepared for an Earthquake, so that's good, but who can really be prepared for something of this magnitude. 8.9 is just an unfathomable number to me.

Japan is probably the most earthquake, tsunami-prepared country in existence. Top notch infrastructure. They should cope well.

Apparently, some of the tsunami gates were overrun by the wave, and those areas are now flooded.

Holy shit. They just had a 7.whatever the other day. 8.9 is just astonishing and scary all at once.

What blows my mind is that they've had a 7.1 aftershock. That alone is a large quake.

Not looking forward to the inevitable bad news tomorrow. :/
