Janeway's Convient Morals

JanewayRulz!

Oooooh. My love for Janeway has just increased by ten points, now.
That is totally awesome.

:D

Thank you bunches for the info, friend.

:techman:

Side Note:

Now, I gotta watch that episode again!

didn't seek out an alternative other than obliterating Tom Paris out of existence.

Sure she did. She obliterated the weapon being fired at the station. The concussion from the weapon exploding so close to the Delta Flyer put it out of commission. She never actually fired on the Flyer, though in no uncertain terms she told Tom that she WOULD have had she needed to do so.

And frankly, you're lucky to be standing here right now. I would have destroyed your shuttle if necessary.

In that case, she did seek out alternatives. I wish she would have done so in "Tuvix". As I've said for the 8+ years I've been here, my problem with Janeway's actions aren't so much with what she did (she was kind of stuck with a Hobson's choice in the matter), but how she went about making the decision. It was a decision with major consequences one way or the other, so why the rush? Why not study the situation and see if there was an alternative that could save all (heck, just looking up the Enterprise logs from "The Pegasus" would have gave one possible solution)? People have argued that taking more time would have made offing Tuvix more difficult, but considering what was at stake, a little research would have been worth it.

If you haven't seen them. Check out my Tuvix arguments at the following links...

And here is Gary 7's post on the issue, too...

Yeah, I've read that entire thread. Some good arguments on both sides, but that just makes me wonder all the more why Janeway was in such a rush to act. But Janeway's decision in "Tuvix" isn't what I'd consider an example of her convenient morals. I'm more troubled with some of her other actions (like in "The Swarm", for one).

All I remember about that episode is the freaky aliens in it. I may have to pop that episode in sometime to see what your referring to.
