Janeway "Deserved" To Die? (Spoilers?)

O'Donnell is an Irish name right? Which would explain why Admiral Janeway took a knife to a gun fight. if she wanted to destroy the hub before she left she would have packed the correct weapons before she went into history to do the job safely... But not only did she not consider the possibility that her mission could be rejiggered assbackwards that she'd have made a shite boyscout in so being that she was in no way prepared to take on the Hub, but she did it anyway all the while endangering Seven of Nine and her boyfriend in a completely new way.

if she was Moses she should have died before she got to earth.

If she was Odysseus, she'd have stuck Marks new wife like a pig and taken back what was hers.

If she was Anieas her boyfriend would have died half way through and she'd be mope on about it the hole way home.

But in all, as far as emulating the iconic fictional journey takers go, I think she was Forrest Gump.

Janeway made the right call. No, it wasn't an easy one but something tells me if she had gone the other way we would still be having this conversation only it would be "That bitch let Tuvok and Neelix die."
It's called a no win situation. I've heard that from soem where before? There isn't a right answer. Which is why the episode is so interesting compared to the usual were Janeway has easy choices between up and down and gets to be smug while teaching others that their own idiot choices and lifestyles are worthless.

I have a hard time arguing with your logic. :(

No kidding.

I'm going to break my rule and openly declare that this is one of the most incoherent posts I have ever read on this forum.

You don't know Guy well, do you? :rommie:

He makes sense, once you get used to his posting style. Or maybe I'm just crazy enough to understand him... :shifty:

Err... ok, yes. And if they don't say it's a happy ending...?

The editors and writers of Pocket Books (ie TPTB) are still telling stories in the 24th Century Trekverse, the same one which the Voyager and her (now-dispersed) crew inhabit. So if they have decided to give certain members of the Voyager crew a less-than-happy ending or other life situation, we thus have to accept that, right?
Nope, books aren't canon.

I cannot claim to understand his style but confess I am usually highly diverted by his posts! :rommie:

No!

We shall not accept it. I've had more than enough of meaningless character destruction.

The problem is that there is a tendency to go round in circles:

Read the first page of "After the Fall"...I'll wait :)

As for me, character death isn't an issue. Death is a natural part of life, even in literature. However, books aren't considered canon so if Viacom/Paramount put Janeway in a film and/or have her make an appearance, then those books become null and void. So why put faith in stories that don't exist in the real Voyager continuum?

Because they're entertaining...and they're the only Voyager fix that's officially approved by paramount we're likely to get...who cares what's canon and what's not...we enjoy the stories (well those of us who read them do...(mostly!))

Well you know what they say, can't make an Omelette without breaking some eggs, or in this case can't make character jepordy interesting without killing some characters, oh an PS

CHARACTER DEATH ISN'T ANNILIATION, CHARACTER DEATH IS A CHARACTER BEING DEAD.

Oh a PPS

KES'S CHARACTER WASN"T DESTROYED IT WAS ASSASSINATED THERE'S A DIFFERENCE.

erm, what he said, though no one used the word anniliation...and technically the character can't be said to be destroyed, because we know she's still around in some way shape or form (same goes for being annihilated)

That is your choice and you aren't being denied the right to it, just be aware those stories don't offically count. They only count because it's your choice to accept them as fact.

BTW, I care what is canon and what isn't as do a few others(Paramount being one of them). I'm sorry our opinions don't count with you due to the contradiction in beliefs.

You're trying to tell me what's correct and incorrect about a fictional universe? End of the day it's all made up :)

My reply would be: No shit.

Once again you miss the point, I'm telling you that you have made a choice and you made it by accepting the books as canon which they aren't. Besides, we come to the forum to debate what is correct & incorrect within this fictional universe everyday. Pointing it out doesn't change what we all come here for.

End of the day I'm not buying a book with a dead Janeway in it.

For the record I loved the new Trek movie. The original crew got a reboot which means we get to see these beloved characters in more adventures. As a TOS fan that works for me - canon shmanon. :)

And also you seem to have missed my point. Which was that I don't really care about canon and not canon because I enjoy the stories!
