James Kirk in "Discovery"?

We'll see images of Kirk. One from the movies... and one from TOS. Maybe one of the publicity shots from the '60s in some nondescript area.

Just because DSC is in the 32nd Century doesn't mean it can't reopen that Canon Can Of Worms.

It will be part of a montage-great Federation speeches through the years.

Honestly if they wanted to have their own Kirk for possible future use in Pike/Sec 31/whatever, DSC season 3 wouldn't necessarily be a bad test balloon.

Use 'historical footage' in the whole fixing the federation ideals storyline (that I'm assuming we'll see), cast the best person you can find and let the fans first see them by watching them do their own version of some famous Kirk moment or other. Maybe the 'we're not going to kill today' speech or something similar.

That's a sound idea but I think the timing is wrong. Assuming there's a Pike Series, it could be years before they do anything with Kirk in the flesh. It doesn't make sense to hire someone and then make him wait five-to-seven years before he gets a show of his own, by which point things might've drastically changed: both for this potential actor and for CBS/Trek.

The Pike series could do an episode about the Farragut attack, but that's unlikely as Kirk and Pike won't meet until Kirk takes over command of the Enterprise (and it's pretty much impossible to do a Pike-series Farragut episode and NOT have them meet).

If anything, a Short Trek would probably be the easiest way of seeing Kirk again.

Kirk has been in a Short Trek, now

Is that a spoiler? There's a two-week window for spoilers on this forum, per the rules, so I think events from Ephraim and Dot should be unspoilerboxed since December 26th. It's six months in other forums (so, June 12th), but not here.

Unless we're treating Short Treks as separate from Discovery (or Picard in one case). At which point, I guess it's six months across the board.

Does it matter? I wanted to put a spoiler tag on it just in case, and I did.

Kirk's "appearance" in Ephraim & Dot doesn't count as a spoiler, since it's just a soundbite from TOS. It's nothing we haven't already heard.

Hi, I'm new here, and I just finished watching seasons one & two of Discovery. I don't know if others have mentioned this before, and I couldn't find anything online about it. If I'm not mistaken, I thought I heard Kirk's voice at the end of the last episode when calling Spock to the bridge. Maybe it's just me, but it sounded just like him over comms.

To be exact, Kirk

1) met Pike when Pike was promoted to "Fleet Captain", and
2) took over the ship from him.

The two instances are in no way connected semantically, so perhaps they aren't connected chronologically, either. (Heck, there's no direct semantic reason to believe that Kirk first met Pike in that promotion, either - Kirk just says that the two indeed have met, and gives a telling example.) But in any case, Pike is already a Captain in Starfleet when we first see him in "Brother", so perhaps the promoting ceremony and the meeting have already taken place, and Kirk and Pike have shared the morning transporter at San Fran ever since.

The Farragut incident is in the past of DSC, too, having taken place during or before the first season. Will ST:Pike delve deeper into the past than DSC? Quite probably, as there's more freedom for the character before DSC S2 than after it... Might be Farragut's encounter with the vampire cloud comes in Pike season 4 or something.

Kirk could still show up in S3 as an archive image or something. Maybe the crew reading up on what they missed. Though that would be a lot of years.

sorta like when Saru asked the computer for a list of the most decorated Captains in history. Only the S3 list would include Kirk, Spock (he was a Captain), Picard, Sisko, Janeway and maybe Riker.

The computer would have 700 years of names to grab from, so probably not.
