James Gunn ought to make a Star Trek movie

If Paramount acquires Warner, then maybe Gunn can make the Star Trek/Legion of Superheroes crossover film no one knows they really want.

Before that happens, we need a Star Trek/ Star Wars crossover. It's only been the ultimate fan clash for the past 50 or so years.

And before anyone says it, James T Kirk is cooler than Han Solo!;)

BTVS set the high water mark for the wit and thematic depth the lyrics and the overalk importance of the episode. It actually marks the turning point of at least a couple of long-running narratives.

Likewise for XENA's "The Bitter Suite" which resolved a season-long arc that had turned Xena and Gabrielle against each other. (The episode literally begins with Xena trying to kill Gabby, after Gabby's demonic daughter killed Xena's long-lost son, before they're sucked into a musical fantasy dimension that forces them to work through their issues -- in song.)

I'd be interested in a Star Trek film written—or at least structured—by Nicole Perleman. She developed Guardians of the Galaxy because of her interest in science fiction.

You cannot be seriously comparing Guardians of the Galaxy or Superman to Section 31?
Not entirely seriously; I will concede that Gunn (or his collaborators) have a better handle on the craft of filmmaking than anyone involved in Section 31.

But the only one of Gunn's films I like is the first Guardians of the Galaxy film, and I can only assume that's because he's not the only writer on it. I find the vibe of his work just rancid. Yes, even Superman; he did a better job with Superman himself than I anticipated, but the world around him is so lacquered with irony and cynicism and regression that I'm just so deeply turned off.

Section 31 absolutely captured that.

That's fair, I suppose. I will admit that the first Guardians movie is the only movie in that series that I like without reservation myself. I enjoyed the second and third movies, but while I wouldn't call them "rancid", I will say that... choices were made.

I did really enjoy Superman, but even there I can see where certain storytelling choices would not be for everyone.
