James Doohan : D-Day

Relayer1

Admiral

Jimmy Doohan saw action on D-Day, landing on Juno beach.

His war record is impressive and fairly easy too look up. I'd suggest you do.

It seems a suitable occasion to remember him, all those who served and those who gave their lives 70 yrs ago today.

Rest In Peace Jimmy, and thank you.

I forget which beach my father landed on, but he was there, too.

I kept thinking about Doohan today at work, and about what a tenuous thing reality is. He could just as easily have been killed that day. Instead, he went on to become such an icon to us.

If I had it handy, I'd post the picture of the submarine my father was in from the war. It's a drydock photo after it'd been hit by a torpedo, incredible damage. It was difficult to picture the guy I knew, mowing the lawn, doing crossword puzzles, etc. to be in that situation back when. They don't get enough credit, and I always think of them when I confront my little life "problems", such as the store being out of english muffins and such. We have it so easy, thanks to these heroes who were called upon to action. :techman:

Scotty gave us so much, And I'm glad he had the chance.
