I would have loved to have seen the original cut of Mind Sifter before they threw out literally every bit of filmed footage to start again, or the completed rough cut of Origins/Protracted Man, which was scrapped due to personal bad feelings between Cawley and episode guest star Vic Mignogna. There was great footage of both on youtube at one point. Was there any footage released for the Bread and Circus sequel?

It was ok, but something was really off. The actress playing Natira is really good.

The page for "Torment of Destiny" at New Voyages: Phase II, International gives an official statement on why production was halted.

Update Feb. 2018: Due to the CBS Fan-Film Guidelines, post-production work on this episode has been halted. All scenes have been filmed, but there are about 180 visual effects that need to be added to the episode, which would be many months of work. As two of our three visual effects experts can no longer work on the project due to the restrictions of the Fan-Film guidelines, completion of this episode cannot continue without special permission being granted from CBS. This is unlikely during release of Discovery and we are unsure if this episode will ever be permitted to be completed. We understand this is disappointing for our loyal fans, but we are not responsible for the events that led up to the release of those guidelines.​

I can understand why they redid Mind-Sifter, but it's really too bad John Carrigan was replaced, he was always an entertaining part of New Voyages (even if they did overdo his appearances)
As for Bread and Savagery, this is the only footage I ever recall seeing (go to about 4:00 in)

They should've applied for an 501(c) from the IRS and talk with CBS more since those films were done shooting before other fanfilms.

It was a slippery-slope thing. Prior to the crowdfunding boom there was the perception that fan-films were in the clear. Even when crowdfunding started it seemed like the majority here still assumed nobody would get sued. But then crowdfunding broke six figures with Renegades and then seven with Axanar and it was really starting to feel like it was too good to be true.

I think people believe that if they are Really And Truly Non-Profit that it will somehow free them from the legal constraints of copyright.

They are wrong.

I think the idea of being a 501(c)(3) was to assure backers and CBS that you were an actual nonprofit and not using raised money for personal gain. It was never going to protect you against a Copyright or other intellectual property claim and I don't know anyone who expected it would. Certainly not Cawley's group.

Was I unclear? Let me clarify. Everyone knew CBS could come after them on IP grounds at any time. The 503(c)(3) thing would in some eyes hopefully avert giving CBS a different or additional reason to come after you, since they had—til Axanar— basically looked the other way on the IP issue.

I don't know much about tax law, but I would say the main reason besides assurance to the donors is for tax purposes. I'd be surprised if most fan-films accepting donations on that level didn't file for that tax-exempt status. I wonder if STNV and Renegades filed for it? Like I said, I don't know much about it and maybe there are other exemption statuses to get around it.

There are good reasons to go 501(3)(c) that don't involve any perceived protection against being sued by CBS. Avoiding lawsuits shouldn't be one's primary motivation. That's what I meant by being non-profit to start with. I don't like the idea of using non-profit status purely as a legal tactic.
