I understand that, I just thought they were more stable now.
Yeah, wrong word, I just meant now that people are going to the movies again.
I'm actually recovering from COVID right now, or technically I might still have it since my at home test this morning still came back positive. I'm down to just the cough at this point, I feel a lot better.
I just wasn't sure if they were still in that much danger, I hadn't seen any more talk about them shutting down since they opened back up and people started going to movies again.

As theater fans, we basically got lucky that the meme stock madness happened. AMC used the money raised by the stock bump to pay off debts and buy up many out of business theaters.

Keep in mind that even pre-pandemic; profit margins for the exhibiters was razor thin; the studios always took the lion's share of the ticket sales (hence the perpetually overpriced food and drink.) Even if they got back up to the kind of numbers they had been used to; they still have two years of lost profits to recoup. That's two years of overheads and debt with negligible net income. That would be crippling to any business, nevermind one that's always existed basically hand-to-mouth. Just this month, the world's second largest cinema chain has declared bankruptcy and will go into administration. Expect more to come.

I don’t get any of those fancy 3D options at my local cinema sadly

Regal Cinema's parent company Cineworld filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy a few weeks ago. They're $8.9 billion in debt. They've closed a dozen theaters since September 13, with more to close and more to be sold off. AMC isn't any better, they're $5.5 billion in debt; though they've been able to secure a line of credit that will keep them operating a little while longer.

I am assuming that the new Avatar films are actually made in 3D like the first one rather than a subpar post production transfer?

Visually, that movie was, like, the only really good 3D film ever made.

Ready Player One is just as good in that respect.

You know, I'm not the biggest fan of vertical integration, but it might become necessary to let the studios own the movie theaters. You just need to put some rules in place about not cutting out independent theaters.

Where I am, the Independents were cut out in the 90's. Today one is a clothing store and the other is a gym.

Looks nice but it doesn’t really give us an idea what the story is. I doubt it’s just evil humans again.

I hope it is not a rehash of the first movie but that trailer does not make me want to rush out and see it. Although I have yet to venture out to the movies since Covid. I use to go to movies on opening week before Covid now I am content to wait until streaming.

Looks like it's possibly Pandorans against Pandorans, ie a possible civil war.

    All I can say is.....

It'll be a entertaining saturday night after work with some good craftbeers and quality snacks on my sofa when it hits netflix or disney or whatever without paying extra while I zone out with my phone half of the time.

Literally nothing about this looks interesting honestly.
