Jadzia's Dax Symbiont

Well, she did sleep around a lot.

Given that, no wonder Ezri was so afraid of being overwhelmed by the symbiont!

Yes. The fact that Dax liked sex is clearly the reason why Ezri was afraid of the whole symbiont thing. Or not.

She made out with 3 guys in 6 years. Saying "she slept around a lot" is either sexist, misogynist, prudish or all of that.

Somebody make such a list for Riker please. That damned bearded slut.

Yeah, it's totally a double standard. Where are the "Kirk was a raging manwhore" threads decrying his relentless sex addiction?

Honestly there should've been waaaaaay more sex and relationships in Star Trek. Most of the people in Trek series lived like nuns or Catholic priests* for 7 years. It's absurd.

How many cast members of the various Trek shows are married or in relationships? Way too few.

Now the few people with normal sex lives stand out as sluts. It's bizarre!

Those of you who post more regularly in this forum would be aware that I lose patience with Kirk for his behavior, and it is even one of the reasons, among others, that I don't like watching TOS. As for why I don't start such threads--my dislike for TOS is to the point where it would probably constitute trolling if I went into the TOS forum and did nothing but post my criticisms.

But thanks for snipping the vast bulk of my post and the main point of what I was saying. That point being, Jadzia Dax's personality seemed to change after "Blood Oath," and in a lot of ways, I think the reputation she has is built partly on Curzon's reputation because his personality overwhelmed hers. In a lot of ways, I think that instead of looking just at Jadzia in isolation, it's a single Curzon-Jadzia personality that's at issue here.

I only said she slept around a lot because the other characters implied it throughout the entire run of the series. It's not sexist, misogynistic, or prudish. Hell, it's not even a judgment. It was a frickin character trait the writers gave her. Even before marrying her, Worf was afraid she wouldn't be able to stay faithful because her history with men. She spent half of the early episodes trying to get Kira to be MORE of a slut!

Riker was a slut. Kirk was a slut. Jadzia was a slut. Geordi tried really, really hard to be a slut but was never successful. Harry was a slut that slept around with aliens, holograms, and robots!

Well, to be fair, we didn't see their lives all the time, and we know that for at least some of the characters (Kirk, Picard, Worf, Data) there were aspects of their personality that kept them more aloof (workaholic, distant personality/unrequited lust for Crusher, natural uptightness + fear of hurting people, emotional "difficulty"). Course, then there's poor Geordi. ;)

She made out with 3 guys in 6 years.

Point of order - the list is wrong. Evidence for her doing more than "making out with" the Meridian guy is at least as strong as Captain Boday, and I'd call the kiss with Doctor Kahn making out. Anyway, I may be overanalyzing. ;)

That's unfair to the hosts Dax had previously. Maybe the synthesis of all their personalities, developed over centuries, resulted in a less conservative view of sexuality and relationships?

Why?
Did he ever force himself on a woman? I don't remember abuse. It seemed consensual in all occasions but maybe my memory is failing me?

I mean, if you spent the last several decades as an old man, wouldn't you turn a little slutty if suddenly you found yourself in the body of a hot, young woman?

I know I would.

I dunno. I might be too busy playing with myself to bother seeking out companionship.

I'd be annoyed if fans of the show were trying to force their conservative agenda on me, though.
I'd totally break the 4th wall, look into the camera and complain about their intolerance, bullying and not respecting my way of life.

Damn, Farscape was so much better than Star Trek with this stuff. People there actually LIVED.

Seriously. If I found myself in an attractive woman's body (uh, I mean in the mind-swap sense, not the sense in which guys usually find themselves inside an attractive woman's body), I know exactly what I'd be doing, at least for a while. :techman:

Thinking about Jadzia: She also seemed a lot more relaxed, self-confident and easy going than most other characters. She was honest and blunt, never passive-aggressive and backhanded.

You think she was less passive-aggressive than the others because she had a healthy love life?

I think a repressed sex life can probably lead to passive-aggressiveness. All that weird guilt, and the ignored desires.

I think Dax helped a lot with that. When you've got lifetimes of experience, it's a lot easier knowing your way around things, and it probably takes a lot to embarrass you or make you uncomfortable.

Before she was joined, I believe Jadzia was characterized as being very unsure of herself.
