The solution is simple. Have Shatner play an old Kirk who doesn't die in the new time line. He can either travel to the past or the new crew can travel to the future. Sure he won't be the "classic" Kirk, but he'll be close enough and we won't have to worry about crossing universes and bringing Kirk back to life.

Travel to (or view) the future (via the Guardian of Forever now that the lawsuit is over with). . . that wouldn't totally suck

Mabye we could catch oldKirk right before the launch of the Enterprise-B? That way the rest of the personal time line could still potentially play out.

I think its a GREAT idea. Than my prediction of the movies failing after one or two more will come true. NuTrek can die an early death. It probably will without Shatner shoehorned in, but this would probably be a big nail in an earlier coffin.

Anyway, no new version of Trek is likely to drag on for decades like the last one did. The studio will probably change directions to refresh it every ten years or so at most.

There is no reason to have Shatner in a Star Trek movie unless he is playing Kirk. Anything else would be a distraction.

This is a case of people finding a character for an actor when it really should be finding an actor for a character.

Shatner is just a man. Him being in the film won't make it even more of a success or a failure. He has more then enough money coming to actually not need to be in the film. Get Garret Wang. He's starving for jobs.

No thanks...I think JJ should read up a bit. I can´t even count how often good ideas had to be changed for Shatners bad ideas just because Shatner had some kind of "script approval" deal going or something and he put his foot down.

Don´t get me wrong...the Shatnerverse novels are fun to read if taken for what they are...but I really do NOT want to see any of Shatnerverse in any movie.

This is a fantastic idea. And in the 3rd movie they should get Takei, and Nichols for the 4th and so on. The new Trek movies should be completely dependent on the original series for it's source of actors.
