J.J. Abrams Wants Shatner For Star Trek 2!!!

Shatner could play Kirk's grandfather in Star Trek XII...

I would love to see that! They were going to try and bring in Nichelle Nichols for XI but they couldn't change the script at the time due to the writers strike and the legal problems. I would also love to see Nichelle come in to play as Uhura's grandmother:techman:.

That's a rather dubious anecdote - basically she met Abrams and he fussed over her a bit and allowed as how it would be nice to have her in the movie if it made sense. She suggested playing Uhura's grandmother and he demurred with a flattering remark about how youthful she looked, and then she concluded the story with supposition about how "the writers strike" prevented it.

It doesn't matter how many do it, it's still retarded. It takes you out of the story for what... a little moment were you can wet yourself?

Easter eggs are fine. In-your-face-hey-guise-look-who's-playing-this-character isn't.

If they do this, they should just get all the remaining original actors to come back and replace the new guys. Yeah!!!

Seriously, having Nimoy in the first one was awesome, a good way to tie into the original timeline, but that's all we need. We DON'T need an original ST actor popping in every nuTrek movie. I'm sorry, but it'll just turn nuTrek into a joke.

Now, if they ever do a TV series set in the new reality, then sure, bring in some guests from the primeverse now and then, but once was enough in the movies.

I don't see how this could be done without looking forced... especially after what we saw in XI.

I agree. As much as I love the Shat, and his recent work has been terrific if you think of Boston Legal, but I doubt they could pull it off in a good way. Nimoy's presence in the first one was already a major gimmick. I don't really want that sort of undignified story-telling repeated.

The solution is simple. Have Shatner play an old Kirk who doesn't die in the new time line. He can either travel to the past or the new crew can travel to the future. Sure he won't be the "classic" Kirk, but he'll be close enough and we won't have to worry about crossing universes and bringing Kirk back to life.

You know whose to say that William Shatner has to come in to play just Captain Kirk, that would be difficult to explain, it would be easier to have him come in as someone else, even a villian! That would be quite a twist for the Trekkies and Trekkers:klingon:.

He made a joke about how much more successful ST 09 would have been with him in it, ...
Shatner in Star Trek: Insurrection would of been great, could only of helped the box office.

If Shatner is in the the next movie, please have him play someone other than Kirk! Having him be the prime villian, a puppet master maybe, would be fantastic. Someone like Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Shatner has the waistline.

Shatner should play a rogue captain who's become a trader in Orion slave women, like the fantasy the Talosians placed Pike in the original pilot. Like a cross between James T. Kirk and Denny Crane, with a little bit of the Priceline Negotiator thrown in. I'm only half-serious. -- RR

 "Bring that flying fatman in here!" -- RR

That would be awsome! Have shatner play a star fleet captian turned pirate! He jacks a bigger ship, maybe another constitution class, and raises a fleet of gorn ships to go against the federation. All we need is a motive....maybe his entire crew was slaughtered in the battle of vulcan, and he went insane! Evil, crazy, power hungry Shatner!

Star Trek XII: The Wrath of Tiberius

Actually a few years back, I would've been chomping at the bit to see Mirror Kirk face off against the combined might of successive crews... A three-way Generations but with the Shat center stage, as the scenery chewing villain.

...as fanboyish as that whole concept sounded.
