J.J. Abrams Almost Human

DRN's are no longer produced and have an interesting back story. No doubt their value is rising as "collectibles".

Depends. One DRN was memory wiped and was being used as a custodian; Dorian himself was destined for space station maintenance when he was re-drafted. However, it would be an interesting plot to see a "collector" of androids make a play for a DRN...

The hardware has to be interchangeable to a degree, which is how the evil girl head was screwed onto a standard service droid.

It's the software, and possibly the cpu's running the software that are distinctive, but the bodies will have standard limitations, and universal potential despite additional armour, or extra servo's and power sources.

Asmiov spent a long time explaining that building a giant Robot is easy, but it's miniaturizing all that tech into a human sized package is the difficult bit.

This week's episode brought to you by the movie Gattaca.

I really think the writers have a list of movies they are working through.

Can't say I got a Gattaca vibe from it.

More the issue of "designer" babies which crops up in the media now than with the resulting ethics discussion.

Also, as he said, a major part of the plot of Gattaca. Hell, the blond-haired Hitler Youth kid was practically aping Jude Law's genetically engineered superior attitude and appearance, right down to the haircut.

Gattaca certainly isn't alone in tackling the issue, but I think it's pretty obvious the show's writers are recycling a lot of their favorite scifi movie plots. Not that there's necessarily anything wrong with that if you can do something new with it, as they did here with the designer drug aspect, but it would be nice if they didn't make it so obvious sometimes.

While I enjoyed the episode, and found the girl's suicide and the red-haired kid's anguish over it sad and compelling drama, I do wish they would advance the "mythology" arc a bit faster than the piecemeal things we've gotten so far. Did we really learn anything much from all of Kennex's visions last night?

Also, get over the damn Wall already. I know it sounds impatient, but if the show gets cancelled, all these standalone eps with tiny hints at these big arcs with no payoff will be extremely frustrating.

Was this episode supposed to be aired in this order?

Because the massive android army assembling on the other side of the wall should be at the forethought of everyone's concerns right now.

Been a while since I've seen Gattaca and mustn't have paid close enough attention think that in that world it was genetic testing after you were born.

Helped by actors and production that was able to sell it without being overly melodramatic.

Well it lead him to the Mastrioka doll which was being but I guess that's a small thing.

Have to admit I also liked the music last night. Not sure if it's never been as prominent or just the particular soundtrack.

Gattaca was about a natural born individual (Ethan Hawke's character) trying to pass himself off as gene engineered individual to get his dream job of astronaut.

I really enjoyed the latest episode. I wonder if they'll be able to trace where the audio recordings from the Russian doll were being uploaded to.

I bet they pushed the Terminatrix episode a few weeks earlier in an attempt to spike some interest. Although, according to tvbythenumbers, the ratings aren't even that bad.

I enjoyed the episode. I thought the stuff with the genetically engineered kids and designer drug was interesting and nicely sci-fi. It was also nice to get some more background information on Stahl.

I thought it was just fine. FOX probably decided to push it back because it lacked lots of explosions.

I like that it FINALLY gave Detective Hottie something to do, though IMO she is miscast on this show. She does not look or act like a cop. Also, since this episode was apparently made she's basically been eye candy at the precinct. Use her or lose her, guys.

Finally, that lawyer was SO anachronistic. He was using an ancient Windows Suface tablet from, like, 2013, man! Must be a collector's item. ALL the tablets in 2048 are so much bulkier and with a smaller screen - get with the times!
