J.J. Abrams Almost Human

Really enjoyed tonight's episode. Very curious to see what they are up to with Dr. Vaughn. They mentioned The Insyndicate, when the bot stole Danica's head but it was never mentioned again, so I was never entirely clear if he was supposed to be working with them or not?
I liked getting a little more back story on Dorian and his android model.

Yeah, I'm very curious to see exactly what is on the other side of "The Wall". Definitely didn't sound like a place the average person would want to go.

You can see into it from above. It's just a section of the city on the tip of the peninsula that was walled off and left without power Escape from New York-style for some reason. It looks to be mostly residential and medium-sized general use towers. My guess would be either there was some sort of outbreak, or the people there rebelled against the growing police state. Whatever happened, things would have to be really screwed up to just abandon the people behind a wall and cut off power. You can see it in the pics below:

That's L.A.? The construction industry must have gotten a whole lot more efficient if they could build all those shiny new buildings in so short a time...

Well, it's good that we finally see the beginnings of some kind of mytharc... and this episode has raised more questions than it answered.

Why does "the Wall" exist and who and what would you find behind it? Why is it considered so extremely dangerous to go there?

Does Dr. Vaughn have any connections to InSyndicate (or Kennex' ex-girlfriend for that matter)? Is he planning to built a robot army to take over the city?

Huh. Hadn't realized it was there the whole darn time, lights off and everything.

Yeah, I don't think this is any specific real-life city. It's pretty clear that lots of it was based on actual Vancouver with various bits moved around and then the always-on-advertisements masking the rest. The Wall doesn't looks like Vancouver though, that's for sure. Doubtless they'll use Gastown for those scenes when we see them.

This week was good, and overall this show has been very watchable. My wife is a huge Karl Urban fan from the Xena days, so that's two fans in my house; but the chemistry for the two leads is perfect. The supporting cast is largely stereotypes and expositionary types you'd find in any cop show, but apparently next week Stahl FINALLY gets to do something besides look pretty in a corner of the office or at a crime scene. This arc should have started sooner, but it's STILL a police procedural at its core... But in terms of world-building it's been really fun to see this kind of future evolve.

And can someone explain to me why the heck this show still hasn't been renewed? It's pulling in better ratings than its cradlemate Sleepy Hollow, and THAT got renewed almost right away.

Oh, right. FOX.

On the matter of construction... Building or rebuilding the city quickly... ROBOTS!

I'm just wondering how the Unions and organized Crime handled this bite into the industry?

There seems to be three episodes left, are there three episodes to find about what's on the other side of the wall?

Its where the zombie hordes are, they erected the wall centuries ago and now no one remembers why. They just know they are banned from entering the Forbidden Zone.

I saw the same thing. It's not a certainty until around May, but if it hasn't been renewed officially by now, FOX's track record suggests it won't be. It's a shame - as I said, it earns better ratings than other shows in a similar bracket (it's a good 50% more people than Sleepy Hollow), but FOX may think it only wants one SFF show per year or thinks it has something better for next season - as if.

So not being pessimistic, I really hope FOX realizes this show is can be successful and bring it forward. It takes more than John Noble, people. ;)

John Larroquette acted the part quite well, although he was so saccharine sweet in his sob story and contrition that you knew he would have to end up being the baddy... I guess he's the baddy.

Mythos created, show hopefully not cancelled. This is the mix of goofy sex entendres and interesting plotlines the show should've started out with.

Outperforming The Following, which I only watch just to see how sick it can get. Seems to be a replay of last season, only this time with two sick cults perhaps on a collision course.

It may have a bigger audience than Sleepy Hollow but sometimes it can be more than that.

for example how does it do against it competitors in the timeslot and b) is it a good return for the money spent. I'd wager it's a more expensive show to produce due to the volume of FX shots.

I enjoyed episode 9, but it reminded me of one huge flaw this series have...

THE ANDROIDS ARE TOO WEAK!

Atleast in this episode, they show an android (the XRN) that isn't the same weak android that the series so far have showed us. This badass XRN killed over 20 cops, and had no problem with the new wave of cops being sent over to get her, but then Kennex all of the sudden goes hand to hand against her? WTF? The first hit should have been like hitting a brick wall, and then the XRN should have punched him unconscious in the first hit. Instead, we get a series of hits between Kennex and the XRN until he finally loses. Sure, he signalises that it hurts hitting her, but no way should he be able to do it more than one time. Also, the XRN's head moved to the side whenever she was hit. Why? Kennex has a robotic leg, not a robotic arm, if they had incorporated him using this advantage then it would be a little more plausible, but this was just ridiculous.

Even though it is not that apparent in this episode, the rest of the season have portrayed MX's that are too weak. They constantly break into little peaces. This applies to Dorian too. When the plot warrants it, he can take many shots to the chest, but other times, one bullet switches him into Korean mode, or requires chewing gum to contain. Why are they not built more like Terminators? (i guess if they are afraid of the machines ever doing an uprising, they wouldn't want to make them too powerful. But if that's a possible scenario, then why do they make so many of them, and rely so heavily on them, while at the same time treating them like shit?)
