I've got an idea

I think that it might be possible to reassemble the original USS Enterprise.

Think about it. As Decker said, the refit is an almost a totally new Enterprise.

Which may mean in some Starfleet parts repository, there might be 90% of the original TOS Enterprise, just waiting to be reassembled around a new frame.

Thoughts?

Who is to say that 90% of the TMP refit Enterprise wasn't recycled/remanufactured components taken from the tear-down of the TOS-era Enterprise?

No one. But who's to say it wasn't? If reassembly were possible, it would make a pretty good museum ship and/or tribute to JTK.

It's actually exactly the same ship. They only replaced the saucer, engineering hull, engines, pylons and neck.

Thoughts?

If they had the time, energy, and technology to do that, they wouldn't need to do that.

I could go find the first car I ever owned (1968 Mustang coupe with 45% intact floorboards), but I've got the time, money, and technology to drive a much better car now (a loaded 2000 Oldsmobile Alero with 180k trouble-free miles on it).

Starfleet isn't sentimental.

p.s. I had to get rid of the Mustang in high school when the shock towers were so rusted out that the shocks themselves shot up through the hood. Ruined a sure-thing blow job, too.
