It's all gone.....

It's too bad they couldn't have found some people to give all that too, there are plenty of Trekker's and Trekkies who would have loved to have some of that, if you can't sell it than give it away. Oh well...

Considering that TOS ended forty years ago, how old are these pictures?

Personally, I'd be amazed to discover that the TNG Enterprise sets were still around, which, considering that most of them were redecorated for Voyager, I doubt.

And it's not really all gone. We still have the shows on DVD, which is all any of us ever had to begin with.

Didn't someone post this a couple months ago? I remember the pictures of the lot and the machinery. Trek stuff? ... They sold off what they could to a company that put it on Ebay. At VegasCon last year it made me really sad to hear Kate Mulgrew talk about how they were dismantling the set around her as she did her last scenes. By the end of voyager I don't they the executives at Paramount had any intention of ever filming Trek again.

Well there was this thing called ENT but point taken.

I believe the idea was that any new Trek would be completely new, hence no reason to hang on to any of the old stuff. For what it's worth, a lot of it made it's way into the touring Exhibition and the rest was sold via auctions to Trekkies around the world.

A tragic waste. I saved those images the last time I saw them.

That's Showbusiness, I guess. Build, tear down, straight to landfil... and rebuild all over again as Kelvin sets. Reuse could have saved them a few million.

I seem to recall that in the case of the Trek sets, the soundnstage was falling apart and the sets were on their last legs so they decided to tear it all down and start from scratch as a result

Who cares? It's just stuff. And it's not even your stuff so quit wailing and gnashing your teeth.

What would you have them do with a few flats and rostra (which is all they are)? Wait until they decompose altogether?

It's just surplus MDF and plywood left over from making a TV series. Get over it.

You are absolutely right and you are absolutely wrong. We care, otherwise why bother joining this board or posting to this thread. It is just a TV show. Yep. The point was that all this stuff, and I don't know if it was just ENT leftovers or more, has been saved for a long long time. If they didn't want it, fine. Why not announce that you're having a yard sale and tell the fans it's cash and carry. All of that stuff that didn't make it to the other auctions and exhibits could have found a home with the fans that do care about it. I keep thinking about those fan productions that would have loved to get to use them. What does Paramount care? They have moved on. It's a sad loss. If you don't care, fine. Don't waste your time responding to this post or this thread. No one is forcing you be a part of it. To each his own.

This was old news when Eaves posted it.

The end of "Star Trek" as it had been for 40 years (but esp "Enterprise") came so swiftly and ruthlessly that I personally feel like the higher ups (Berman, et al) were under orders (from Moonives) to not only close it down, but salt the earth so that it would be prohibitively expensive to restart. The show was cancelled, the sets destroyed, the entire production office closed completely and the inventory of props, etc sold off or trashed.

Why? Because the PTB wanted Trek to die, it's day "over". Look at all the post "Enterprise" attempts at a film pre JJ...summarily dismissed or frakked over by CBS/Paramount. JJ got a shot at Trek because Paramount wanted a JJ film, not a Trek film.

I guess it would only happen in wet dream that the PTB would wake in a cold sweat one night and realize, "Holy shit what have we done getting rid of Star Trek?!"

So meh I will keep dreaming, but agreed..what a waste of good trek material.

Are you always an ass or is this your first time?
You've received an Infraction for flaming, as per the board rules. If you care to dispute or discuss this infraction, please do so via Private Message.

Discuss the topic - NOT the poster.

That's a shame, but it's not uncommon.

I would have taken it, too. Not having a single place in my house to put it be damned.

They're pretty old, dating from some time in the 1970s, I think.

There were some pictures of what was supposed to be a mostly-restored Galileo on display at a convention which made the rounds a few years ago. You can see a couple of shots at the bottom of this page.

See also here, here and here.

Edit:

This is kind of interesting, too.
