Is your avatar picture really you?

All right--having criticized SicOne in another thread for ignoring the OP, I felt duty-bound to return here, and take his question seriously.

There's no mystery about the photo in my avatar. Like SicOne, I only just recently noticed the avatar-photo thread.

This isn't a great photo--I look a bit cadaverous, IMO--but it's the only recent photo I have. I don't get photographed often.

Thank you for the contribution, Camelopard.:)

Yes, that's really me in my avatar. And it's a very recent picture. It's not the first time I've shown my face on the internet either :p

That was me before I had a sex change.
I mean, cross-gender avatars? I found it confusing at first, but once you know a poster's gender, I think that seeing them use an avatar of the other gender is less confusing. Otherwise we end up identifying people with their avatar, albeit famous.

Now when the gender difference really is misleading (as when usernames give no clue, or the wrong one) it's always a funny surprise finding out this guy was a girl or this girl was a guy. Makes me try to remember and rethink their posts. :D

LOTS of people mistake my gender on the internet. Especially at NSider, where my username since 2005 has been General K-Star. Most people automatically assume I'm a dude since there's a military rank involved. People still get confused with my other screennames, too. (scdrumlinepit and ProudNerd).
