Is this a new Star Trek game? Alien Domain

This popped up in a banner ad on a gaming site I was on.

Now it's a cool pic but now I'm wondering what ship that is and why it's in an atmosphere.. They took some liberties I think it makes me think of some kind of Enterprise version.

Checked it out for a bit. It's not very good. If you've played any of the Facebook style RPGs that are so easy as to play themselves, this is one of those, with a very thin Star Trek skin. It doesn't even really have a Trek feel to it. You just know it's a Trek game due to the uniforms officers wear, and every one of them look super young, looking like they came right out of high-school.

Gameplay is boring. You just go from sector to sector, clearing them out in the process. Species 8472 has invaded, blah blah blah. I don't even remember how far I got, but I didn't feel very convinced to keep playing. As a matter of fact, I think I ran into a bug of some sort that prevented me from making any progress. The game's nature is just very repetitive, causing me to lose interest very quickly. Basically, this is Star Trek in name only. Don't count on it on being a fancy Star Trek game. Star Trek Timelines does better than this and uses its license in a much better manner.

In other words a flash game I can safely avoid...

Love how everyone has cottoned on that geekdom is a surefire way to make money..

There's even products designed for nerds like the scifi block and nerd block which are boxes of collectibles and random junk. All designed to separate nerds and geeks from their money.

Or worse, Trek-themed junk merchandise that no self-respecting fan would ever purchase, but perhaps it might be that one item that their significant other believed they might be interested in because "It looks like one of those silly Star Track things that he/she wastes his/her time on".

Starfleet uniform pajamas and hoodies? Empires of the Alpha and Beta Quadrant coasters? Plushie stuffed Klingon Targs? Yeah, that's the ticket!

I'll go ahead and echo those who say it isn't worth playing.

The gameplay is a cookie cutter Facebook resource gathering game; imagine a less deep version of FarmVille but with a Star Trek skin.

You click on a building and wait for it to be upgraded. You click on a planet and wait for your ship to get there. All the while you wait for your existing buildings to gather resources.
In the beginning the waiting time is minimal and development costs are low, making it not too dissimilar from a premium strategy game. However, once you've progress further in the game there's little to do but wait for timers to finish.
The colonization system is fun for a little while, but it gets old very fast, since it's really just more timers that you need to wait for.

There are two things that could have rescued the game in my view are the combat system and the story.

The combat isn't awful. It's just not very interesting, and it doesn't feel particularly Star Trek-inspired.
Your ships go on one end of the screen and the enemy's go at the other, and then they shoot at each other. Combat mostly boils down to clicking your strongest attack as soon as the cooldown timer finishes.

The story, meanwhile, is hand down awful. The plot can be summarized by "Starfleet and Klingon ships go into fluidic space to fight aliens and each other." This rather uninspired plot could be saved by interesting events and well-written dialogue, but there just isn't any soul to it. I played the Klingon side, and the story progression mostly boiled down to "Go here, blow something up. Honor and glory!"

I also agree with Owain that Star Trek Timelines is much more deserving of your time. I actually didn't love Timelines either, but there's no doubt in my mind that it has far better gameplay, and it does a much better job of making you feel like you're playing in the Star Trek universe. Also, I know several people who love it, so chances are you will, too.

No after becoming addicted to several games like this including Farmville I decided not to pursue them. I got bored very fast with that despite checking in every day almost. But noticed the same things over and over and that's actually what kicked me out of it and I have never looked back..

I think I'll pass on this game.

I've been playing it for a couple months. If you've got some time to burn it does that without getting too in depth. I'll also move this to our Trek gaming forum. :techman:

Yeah, everything about it feels like they just copied and pasted from other games of the type, with substitution Trek lingo. It's just so bland. The Star Trek skin isn't even convincing. It's just so blah.
