Is There Even A REMOTE Chance Of A New Trek Series?

I think we should write a few letters out to important people about getting a new Trek series and we should write out a petition we can all sign and send it with each letter.

Who would we have to write a letter to in order to get a new Trek series, whos in charge of everything required to produce a new one?

We should also put a collection of ideas together to send with the letter such as characters, storyline, ship designs, new species and timeframe.

A petition may be a good idea, but under no circumstances should there be any suggestions of characters, designs, story ideas, etc. That is simply not the way studios do things and more likely than not, at the first sign of outside creative ideas, the thing would be relegated to the nearest dumpster. Studios are phobic about any chance of being sued for copyright infringement.

Because of this, one of the reasons there probably wouldn't be a series based on any of the previous series is that writers in general and Berman and Co. in particular do have some proprietary rights concerning characters that they have created. Hence no T'Pau as a regular in ENT and Ellison's recent grumbling over the rumored non-authorized use of the Guardian of Forever in STXI. Ted Sturgeon's estate would have to be paid every time the character was used so that made T'Pau's use a a regular non-feasible financially.

The most likely things to happen are either a series set post Berman era, a reimagining of that era, or set during TOS era.

Of course, all of this is just wild speculation as none of us are connected to CBS/Paramount...or are we:evil:?

^^^"Knights of the Old Republic" TV series?

There is no such series in production. There's the animated Clone Wars and the live action series set between Episodes III and IV.

\S/

My appologies, I thought the series was set before ep I not between III and IV. My fault.

But my point still stands, if Trek goes H2H with Wars, I think Trek loses. I wouls wait until after the Wars series is done, so that Trek isn't up against both Caprica and Wars. It can be done, but it has a far better chance being one of maybe two scifi space operas, rather than one of 3 or 4.

The CW is a shitty network, and network TV is dying in general. Besides, nowadays it seems like all the good original dramas are on cable (particularly FX, USA, and HBO).

Someone didn't get the memo, HBO Series are dead, it's all about Showtime now. :)

And I still believe that The CW will try to make a new TV show that is 90210 in space.

Agreed on Showtime (dexter, woot!), but since it's part of CBS/Viacom, why couldn't they try a new Trek show on there? It may even provide the opportunity to be more cutting edge and daring than it would be on a network, though that of course depends on what audience they would want to target.
IF the new movie will be successful and IF they decide to develop a show based on that, I see them targeting a younger, new audience, which in turn would translate to a less daring Trek, IMHO.

All in all, there doesn't seem to be a market for a primetime sci-fi show on the mainstream networks now and anything Trek would have to bring in major ratings.

Howzabout we see if the new movie is any good or not, and whether it attracts an audience or not first?

Cart, meet Horse. Horse, Cart. Cart will be riding in front today. ;)

That still doesn't negate my point that the good original dramas are on cable.

Doesn't change the fact that they're still a shitty, third-rate network.

Could they possibly play a new show on Sci-Fi. Imagine a Friday night line up with a new Trek episode and then a BSG episode. That would be amazing.

I think that even if there is a new trek series, it won't be what we want. We all want a Titan series, we all want another Ds9. I'm not sure either of those are likely, as awesome as they would be for fans like us. Certainly the last thing I want is something TOS-era or another prequel.

Nothing personal, but speak for yourself, man! :P I wouldn't mind a DS9 movie, but the idea of a Titan series sends shivers down my spine.

I feel very confident that we have now entered into a second 1980's. I was amazed when Star Trek XI was announced so soon after ENT's cancellation--kudos to Paramount for that--but producing movies and television at the same time never worked for Star Trek. Except in 1991.

Best case scenario is that the movie makes a zillion dollars, in which case we'll be locked into the new movie franchise for some time to come. That means long fallow periods between films for a decade or more. So it's time for the fandom to do what the fandom has always done best: make fanfic. Or, with modern technology, make more advanced fan works. On which note, why don't you all listen to Star Trek: Excelsior? Handy link in my sig.

As much as I loved DS9 I'm confident that we'll never get a DS9 movie. I'd love for them to pick up with ENT but that won't happen either. I agree with the rest who say an animated series is our best hope. It's cheaper to make and very versatile. You could go with TOS series or a TNG series. And if they went TNG, revisits to DS9 and VOY could easily be incorporated.

I would bet money that there will be a new trek series sometime in the next 20 years, but almost certainly not for the next five. In other words, I can personally guarantee a new Trek series premiering sometime between 2013 and 2028.

Some people still think a possible Titan TV series with Riker is on the table.

Man...if possible, that'd be a great idea. One of the problems though would also be that if done as the books, the production costs would be pretty high. Lotsa really diverse and hard-to-portray aliens. It'd have to have a decent budget.

Don't worry!
There will be a Trek series sooner or later.
Star Trek with its millions of fans all over the world is simply just a too big market to be ignored for a longer period.

I don't know...

You guys did see "These are the Voyages...", the last ENT episode, right. I'm sorry but Mr. Frakes and Ms. Sirtis will have to follow Ms. Bertinelli's lead if they want to fit into their 'fleets these days. And yeah, as described in the books, the productions costs would make a lot of those characters TV-budget prohibitive.

The TV show is bound to happen. The question is, will it look or feel like any ST we would recognize?

I just don't see Jonathan Frakes wanting to do such a series - he seems to have pretty firmly moved onto directing.
