is Stargate dead for good?

Not necessarily. Their fleet is pretty large. If they were desperate they could muster the entire thing.

Earth has superior technology and potential allies who could help if it became necessary. The Lucian Alliance would still be slaughtered. The Lucian Alliance attack on Earth is a stupid storyline which would be best left forgotten. There are other things the show could be focusing its time on.
Pretty much. A frontal assault on Earth would only end up in one of two ways:
a) Antarctica Base turns the ships into burning hulks in orbit
b) The upgraded battlecruisers play a fun round of "slice&dice 'em".

Over the years the writers have written themselves into a corner by adding a new deus ex machina every other week.

The drone chair was destroyed in the Atlantis finale.

Doesn't really matter. They have McKay, Carter AND MacGyver. As long as there's tinfoil and bubblegum they'll find a way to repair it.

Come to think of it Atlantis is now on Earth anyway, so they'll have drones either way.

1) Do we really believe that Carter and McKay with help from Zelenka and Dr. Lee haven't created a replacement?

2) Even if they haven't, they can just rig the Atlantis chair up to fire drones from Antarctica.

3) Or they could just launch drones from Atlantis, and issue a cover story to the people of San Fransisco for those strange glowy lights launching into the sky.

4) If push comes to shove, let the 304s take care of this.

5) For shits and giggles, round up the Jaffa to help out.

6) Maybe the Ancients left something cool on Mars that could be a handy deus ex machina to save the day?

An attack on Earth does not interest me anymore. This show is supposed to be about people stranded on the ass end of the universe, and everyone is worrying about an attack on Earth which should be easy to deal with.

I don't know how much weight they carry, but I doubt the producers will push for either until either the fate of SGU is resolved one way or another.

Hell for all we know the Moonbase Carter was talking about building has a big honking space gun they could shoot at the LA fleet.

All of this presupposes a full on frontal assault. I don't recall that it was ever mentioned that was what they were planning. What we do know is that they've proven that they can get cloaked cargo ships onto the surface undetected. A couple dozen of those in strategic locations, loaded with naquadria enhanced nukes and all the drones in the universe suddenly won't do you a lot of good. Hence the urgency in getting as much intel as they could.

In fact, the LA are no doubt fully aware that they lack the capabilities for an effective frontal assault. Why else would they have been scheduling secret meetings with Telford and gathering intel in secluded locations? If they can get cloaked ships onto the surface then it's already game over. Put a bunch of those in strategic locations--say, on the roofs of major government buildings around the world--pack them with naquadriah, and you can cripple the world's governance in one fell swoop.

But that would be too much of a game-changer for the SG universe so they'd never do it. It's not like there's any real chance of an LA attack doing serious damage to Earth. The SG showrunners have never shown a predilection for altering the status quo too much.

Because that's how intelligence works. You find someone who has a weakness you exploit and you get the information you need out of them. No matter what your force level is, you do whatever you can to make it as unfair a fight as possible. Its less costly in manpower and resources.

I think it's far too soon to start over from scratch. Either continue on from here or leave it alone for a generation or so.
