Is Star Trek: Picard lasting 7 seasons a possibility?

He bought a house in LA because it was the thing to do at the time because he knew he’d be spending a lot of time in LA shooting PIC (he even said as much in an interview IIRC). He has a few properties that enable him to always pretty much live where his main career events tend to take place, it made sense to add LA to that mix. This is nothing out of the ordinary. And yeah it’s also true that PIC is the only Trek series that’s shot in California mostly because he insisted on it. So, generally speaking, him buying a house in LA means very little in the context of how many seasons PIC will have. He just likes to be comfortable. :)

You think if Patrick Stewart died they'd just recast on roll on with another season?

Goodness gracious me.

I wish I could say that particular take is rare but I’ve lost count of how many people I’ve come across who either went like “he can’t die he has to finish PIC first I want to watch it”, “he can’t die I still need his autograph” etc etc. A lot of people are incredibly selfish and don’t even consider that he might be a human being and not a puppet designed for their amusement. This entire “the show would go on, who cares” take is also nothing new. Sadly so.

Agreed. It's probably fair to say that ST: Picard exists for one reason only -- that PS wanted to do it. The secondary characters are hardly interesting or worthy enough to can carry a show called ST: Picard, let alone their own show. ST: La Serena would basically be a cheap knock-off of Firefly or Blake's 7.

Largely because it is very difficult to connect the human behind the character. Many people treat the humans behind productions quite poorly because they forget they are human.

I find it unlikely it will go for 7.

I think Stewart will get tired of it (plus, he's old), and I think the franchise runners will want to introduce newer stuff and/or go different directions.

At first, Sir Patrick DIDN'T want to do it (he'd played Picard for seven years and four feature films -- he didn't think there was anything more that he could do with the character).

He had to be coaxed into coming back.

And agreed to do/signed for 3 seasons at that time too; assuming Paramount+ didn't decide to cancel before Season 3 for whatever reason. (IE - That was all part of the original deal.)

Well, let's put this thread to rest, shall we.

PS's age at the start of S1 production: 78
Average time to complete one season: 2 years
Time to complete 7 seasons: 14 years
Age of PS in S7: 92

So, no. It will with 99.99% certainty not run 7 seasons.

We're doing two seasons a year now.

The eight-month Covid-19 lockdown was a one-time thing.

yeah, filming Seasons 2 and 3 back to back like that isn't normal.

Also Season 3 filming started last year, so it really isn't 2 in one year.

Possible? Sure, but it's highly unlikely we'll go seven seasons.

I do think there's a possibility for a 4th or 5th season though. The team seems to be putting a lot of effort into this mystery ship for the 3rd season. Would seem like an awful waste for it to be in one season and then done.

But, it's all on Stewart at the end of the day. If he wants to keep going, they'll do it.

They were all interesting characters in their own right. The show simply chose not to focus on them, because it was designed to tell a story about Picard first and foremost, and everyone else's stories were secondary to that. I mean, I would love it if the supporting cast had more focus in seasons two and three, to develop those characters more strongly, because I really liked them all, what we saw of them But the show was named after Picard for a reason, so I do agree that it would be unlikely to continue without him. I do believe that the rest of the cast has enough potential to carry into a spinoff without Picard, but can't actually see it happening. If that were in any way intended, there'd have been more focus on building up the new cast from the start.
