Is Spock really... [possible spoilers]

Is Old Spock (Leonard Nimoy) really gonna die in this film? I hope not, I think that'll be pointless. I remember reading some threads about it awhile back here and I don't know if it was ever confirmed. I think they should leave it open for further stories. I realize Old Spock may not be back in future films if this is successful, but if they kill him off it may ruin that chance. The character is too Iconized to have him killed off. (again)

Also, I watched Cloverfield at a friend's house the other night for the first time and my friend saw the Star Trek teaser for the new film, and he thought Leonard Nimoy's voice sounded a lot like Yoda. I don't know about you all, but I don't think Nimoy's voice sounds like Yoda at all

I thought someone mentioned it in a thread a while back. It wasn't definete rumor no, but I never heard anything again about it so I'd thought I'd ask.

I'm not sure where, but I remember Nimoy himself saying that his Spock is still alive at the end of the movie.

What spoiler? I had an inquire about something and that's what I asked. Not many are answering this, so I'm only assuming one thing. And I hope that one thing isn't true

If he did die that would be fine with me. Death is something that happens to everyone; so if he does, no matter how it happens, it would be perfectly acceptable. He's lead a very rich life already by the time of the movie. He had two careers and seen at least 150 years of history. Even as a Vulcan one should be so lucky to have lived a such a full and long life.

Knowing how he feels about Kirk's death though, I doubt he would have signed off on the movie if he felt his own death was gratuitous.

I'd be surprised if he doesn't die. This is definitely going to be Nimoy's last shot at Spock, so he deserves to play Spock's death scene, even if it's just him dying in bed of old age.

More like a foiler, since there's no reason to believe it's going to happen. Except that it's the sort of thing a screenwriter would find difficult to resist, under the circumstances.

Good point, and I too, seem to recall reading somewhere recently that Nimoy indicated that the window was open for Old Spock to return, if the next movie warranted it.

The thread title with its use of the word "really" asks for confirmation of something that any reasonable person would consider a spoiler, if it's true. I, being both a reasonable person and someone who avoids spoilers, saw that thread title on the front page of TrekToday and could only assume that it was in response to a leak that Spock dies. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not and I don't want to know, but, if it is true, what should be a huge moment for me as a viewer will be considerably lessened because now I'm expecting it.

Spoiler-free ways to ask "Is Spock really gonna die?" are "Spock's fate" or "What happens to Spock?"

Please be mindful that, while users have control over which they threads they choose to read, they have no control over which thread titles they see.

I too, seem to recall reading somewhere recently that Nimoy indicated that the window was open for Old Spock to return, if the next movie warranted it.

As long as he doesn't put his katra in someone then that's cool I guess, but I kind of do want to see Spock die because even if he just dies in bed, he can rest knowing that the young Spock would live on, that the human adventure would continue, he'd die happy and content, serving as the father he never had to himself.

What if old Spock were to place his katra into young Spock? (Perhaps life for young Spock would then resemble the scene in Being John Malkovich where Malkovich himself enters Malkovich's head.)
