I think it could be argued that Pike's arc on SNW was largely played out in season 1. His future was a recurring theme throughout the season but by episode 10 he appeared to have come to a better understanding of it and accepted that he could not reasonably alter what was going to happen to him. It's not clear where the character goes from here in my opinion and the reduction of Pike's screentime in season 2 suggests the writers haven't managed to drive his storyline forward. It might be that the writers were forced to focus much more on the other characters because they're unsure of what to actually do with Pike now. I completely appreciate I will probably be proved wrong, though, and I hope that happens soon.
Also, the seasons are far too short for Star Trek imo. TNG commonly had 26 episodes. Episode 6 of a TNG season was right at the beginning but we're now on the home straight in SNW. I don't know if they have enough episodes to do everyone justice in a more ensemble focused show. Having said that, I really like all the characters and the cast are excellent.
