Their jobs are to convince you that they are someone else. If you can't see the character they've created then they aren't doing their jobs.
I know what their jobs are, that's not the issue. It's just how my brain is wired.
It's not their fault, like I stated before, this applies to ANY & ALL fictional mediums I watch.
Nothing personal about their acting abilities, it's just how I think.
After you've grown up and realize that everybody is "Acting as their character" for their professional job, it just becomes reality.
It's like how kids lose a bit of that sparkle behind their eyes when you tell them that "Santa isn't Real".
So you find other aspects of life & story telling to enjoy, especially in the stories that I read / watch.
And also, this assertion kind of seems like bullshit? (And if you are a person on the autism spectrum I apologize as I know this is an experience some have.)
I'm not on any sort of Autism Spectrum, it's just how my mind is wired.
You have nothing to apologize for, it's how I've been thinking for quite a while since I was little.
But, if not, why watch a show about a ship of a space-faring organization traversing the galaxy, crewed by members of interesting, diverse people from different planets, if all you experience is actors in colorful outfits saying words about stuff?
Because I enjoy the show, simple as that; the show is fun to watch, Star Trek is a Universe I want humanity to aspire to become. With all the Good & Bad that entails, because it shows us "Hope" that there is a far greater tomorrow that we can aspire to become as a species, society, nation-state, technology wise, cultural wise, etc.
I personally don't want to know much about the actors themselves - or as I told a friend once (a million years ago) "I don't care about Patrick Stewart's personal life. I'm not in lust with Patrick Stewart. I'm in lust with Jean-Luc Picard."
That's great for you, I'm different, I want to know as much about every single Actor as I can.
I love reading and doing research on my free time. So if it's a actor I like, I'll go do the research.
I'm just a different cat, don't worry about it.
There are different people out there who can enjoy the same things in different ways.
No two people have to be alike. We can all enjoy the same hobbies and see it in completely different lens.
That's perfectly fine.
