Is SNW getting too goofy?

Nope. You literally have no business telling a woman what she should do with her hair. It's her body, not yours. Stop trying to control women's bodies.
Then why is it that her hair IRL is different from the one we see on screen?

What she wears IRL is vastly different from the character she is protraying?

One is what she wears willingly, the other is something she wears for her job.

There's quite a difference.

Because there is a history of people....often men, who are quicker to make comments, etc on women's looks, etc than with other men. I've seen women get such remarks way more often than with the guys in RL.

Maybe cool it.

Because she is playing a fictional character, and by all accounts this is the haircut she wants to use for that character.
Funny how other actors on the show didn't need a special hair cut for their characters.

But she's the only one on the show that needs it, for "Whatever Excuse" the show runners came up with.

Look at every other Actor/Actress, they don't need a special hair cut, why her?

It's not yours to control. Stop trying to control women's bodies.
Again, you're misapplying the statement to suit your narative.

It's obviously not hers to control either, the show needed to give her a special hair cut, one that is drastically different from her personal choice IRL.

Then why was she the only actor who needed the special hair cut?
Nobody else on the cast needed it.

Why can't she just wear what she normally wears IRL?

Funny how other actors on the show didn't need a special hair cut for their characters.

Several of the other actors on the show have different haircuts for their characters. Jess Bush has talked about how she's actually wearing a wig as Christine.

But she's the only one on the show that needs it, for "Whatever Excuse" the show runners came up with.

It is my understanding that that haircut is one Melissa Navia herself wants the character to have.

It's obviously not hers to control either,

No, it is hers. It is her hair. It is her body.

Enough, dammit! This obsessive argument has to stop. NOW! Warning given for trolling.

What do you care? It's just a style they went for her for this show.

A wig is easy, anybody can wear a wig.

Nobody naturally has "White Hair" outside of being in old age.

Christine Chapel is far from old.

Ah, so that was her choice to do it for her role.

In a way that makes her character stand out, Lt. Ortegas sports a futuristic hairstyle, which Navia says was her addition to the character
Yeah, you're right, she added that hair-cut for her character role.

No, it is hers. It is her hair. It is her body.

Again, recommending her to use her IRL hair isn't controlling.

You misapply that statement to suit your narrative.

Apparently she did the hair cut to make her character stand out.

So that's fine, she wanted to do something for her character.

Her choice, but her IRL hair is better than what she came up with, which is baffling.

You misrepresented a comment a poster made about a screenshot from an interview and exploited someone's tragic personal circumstances to launch a sanctimonious tirade. I can honestly say this was one of the most despicable things I've ever read on an internet forum and I am done with this site given how your behaviour has been tolerated. You are in no position whatsoever to preach to anyone.

False.

I can honestly say this was one of the most despicable things I've ever read on an internet forum and I am done with this site given how your behaviour has been tolerated.

Goodbye!

If true, and only you can know for sure, this statement suggests a limited interaction with the internet.

As to goofiness and Trek, every series has been goofy at one point or another (perhaps not Prodigy—only one I’ve not seen in its entirety, so I can’t be certain). So yes, SNW is, at times, goofy. Too much? Not really objectively answerable in a general sense, though subjectively I have to respond “no”.

This stops here. Now. Or else. I come back from a nice concert and have all kinds of reports.

Now look, KamenRiderBlade. Everyone knows that pretty much rule #1 in Hollywood is that one needs to be attractive. So what. Don't make a big deal out of it.

As for her hair style? No one cares what any of us think of someone's attractiveness. I think Ethan Peck is hot. Do you care? No. Do I usually rabbit on about it? No. Will I whine if he wear something that makes him look (imo) bad? No. Because no one cares. And that doesn't bug me. If someone disagrees with my opinion, not caring.

You don't like a hairstyle. Same deal. No one really cares. You stated your opinion. Some may agree, some don't. In the natural order of things, it doesn't matter. If you go on and on about it, you don't look good and you annoy the piss out of me when I get multiple complaints. Because I don't care who any of you find attractive. That's your personal deal and have at it, but don't get all creepy about it. That goes for anyone, male or female. If you have an opinion on attractiveness, swell. Just don't get butthurt if people don't agree. Because more often that not, they won't.

As for free speech, TrekBBS isn't the US Constitution. We try to be fair, but personally, I like a peaceful patch. If you get on my radar too much, I will react to that.

To be honest, you should be talking about the show and the character, not the real life actress' choice of a hair style. What they do on their own time is their own business and really not fodder for here. If you discuss it, don't be surprised to get blowback.

I'd appreciate it if you'd drop down off my radar. If you feel the need to take this up with me, hit me up in a private message, so as to let it drop off of this forum. Thanks.

I mean, everything is of its time and its culture. One of the reasons ancient Greek plays can be so hard to read is that they reflect the dramatic form, aesthetics, and cultural presumptions of the cultures and eras they were written in -- and some of those things have changed so profoundly since c. 400s BCE Athens that it's hard to become emotionally invested in the dramatic tensions the authors intend to create. Nothing is timeless, and nothing escapes its origin.

Classical music and jazz are not timeless. They originate from specific times and cultures, and they reflect those times and cultures. Jazz reflects the African American culture of the late 19th and early 20th Century U.S. South. What we call "classical music" generally reflects European cultures of the early-to-mid Modern Eras. They are rooted in particular eras and particular concerns.

I'm pretty sure the music being in the public domain was the primary reason they were used, not the secondary reason. And it's amusing to think that jazz music is used as a shorthand for being erudite to 1980s/1990s audiences, since jazz had the same sort of reputation in the 1910s and 1920s that hip hop had in the 80s and 90s. An analogous situation would be if a sci-fi show in the 2060s used 1990s hip hop as shorthand for cultural sophistication.

If I remember right, that was the joke in Beyond with them describing Beastie Boys as classical music.

Strange that there’s not the same energy for complaining that Spock’s hairstyle is unflattering compared to the actor’s regular hair. Is that because it’s part of his character design?
Most Vulcans / Romulans seem to culturally go for the classic Bowl Cut hair-style.
It's been protrayed that way for countless shows.
Spock wears that hair style for many decades of being portrayed in Star Trek across TOS/TNG/DIS

Then why not assume the same with Ortegas?
Ortegas is a new & original character with no previous Star Trek history.

I can't believe people are arguing about a hairstyle. What does chapels hairstyle have to do with the subject of the thread. Lol.

Anyway we've had 2 comedy style eos this season and with the Musica one it might be 3. With 10 episide seasons I think 3 lighthearted eps is too much. I wish they would go on a mission out in deep space finding something totally mysterious and dangerous.
