is lost season 6 worth watching?

I wonder if one huge problem for many was the sudden return to full blown mysticism and magic in the last season after four seasons of focusing in Dharma and the more scifi aspects of the story? Sure, there obviously was always a feeling of supernatural fantasy elements around, but from the beginning of the second season there was a clear shift in the story in my opinion.

I love Lost. I obsessed over this show day in and day out for 6 years. They made a show about people tying to get off the island. When we do find out at leaet Jack and Kate get off, they went on a 7 month hiatus, killing momentum.

I think people remember this show as being #1 or #2 in the world, but it only ever peaked at #10 in the 3rd season and dropped to #31. Still pretty good for a show that released itself as science fiction and fantasy .

I agree about the endings of Dexter and particularly Mother being bad. At least with Mother they had the alternate DVD ending that erased the you know what.

This discussion really makes me want to rewatch the show again, having not revisited since it finished airing.

For my favourite shows I tend to go through 5 year gaps so when I return I don't feel burnt out and I am not endlessly mouthing the lines from the characters. It would be about that time for Lost but there is so much else to watch, I am not sure I can justify rewatching a show when I could experience something new.

Still, watch season 6, love it, loathe it, be indifferent about it, but do it. Then you'll know how wrong or right everyone else was.

No. I say skip it. And of I could go back in time I'd tell myself to skip LOST altogether.

It unfortunately it has become the contemporary template for tv shows and for the worse with its excessive storytelling style with flashbacks /flash forwards, time jumps, non linear storytelling, bloated convoluted unsatisfying anti climatic mythologies, ridiculously large casts, frequent character deaths for pure shock value, overly dense plotting, fast ADD pacing.

Now you can escape that style it's in practically every show. Give me a modest ensemble, 3-5 parallelinear season long arcs and linear storytelling at a decent pace from yesteryear

Lost didn't have frequent character deaths for shock value... it was only a once in a while type of thing and usually happened to side characters.

Arzt is probably the most spectacular example of that, but as a way of getting across exactly how unstable the dynamite was, I suppose you can't argue with its effectiveness...except that he might as well have been wearing a red shirt.

OTOH, when they somewhat did the same thing with Iliana, that felt a bit cheap.

 The stuff you're complaining about there is some of the stuff I liked best about Lost.

Well for me it just makes things too busy and unnecessarily complicated. Frankly I'd love for tv writers to pull back and get back to basics. They're far too caught up in structure and toying with the audience than telling a good story with a modest ensemble

Some of us feel Lost told a good story as it was, even while toying with us...

I'm just saying, it sounds like your issues may not be with Lost itself so much as the kind of show Lost was.

Both I would argue. As a series it fell apart at the end by promising answers and then either not providing them or providing disappointing ones. Ultimately all the time was wasted on the mysteries in the end

And the format left a lot to be desired. It moved so fast and expected the audience to do the heavy lifting that it should have--reactions weren't dramatized in many cases on screen, too many characters were nothing more than plot devices, deaths didn't provide the emotional payoffs the writers seemingly believed they should have because they weren't earned. Yes it had great production from sets and location shoots to fx but as a cohesive series spanning narrative it just doesn't work. I had to ask with so much attention on the mysteries yet seemingly in retrospect wanting to be viewed as a character drama you'd think the writers would have just dispensed with all the nonsense and focused solely on the characters rather than wasting time on the superfluous

I really liked the story, and I was happy with the answers we got. There were a few smaller things they didn't answer, but I never expected everything to be answered, and I thought we got good answers to all of the big questions.

Agreed. I felt like we got satisfying conclusions to all of the major characters and that was more important to me than the mythology. We got plenty of good answers to all of the important questions and the rest are better left hanging. Not everything needed to be answered.
